Director, Graduate Student Academic AffairsThe George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School seeks a Director, Graduate Student Academic Affairs reporting to the Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives. Leads academic affairs and degree advisement of all graduate students, graduate courses and instructors of record to Scalia Law School, which includes 5 LLM programs, Juris Master's program, and other new strategic programs, certificates and other initiatives.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment. About the Position: The Director, Graduate Student Academic Affairs is responsible for academic support programming and advising for students enrolled in the Law School's non-JD graduate degree programs ("Graduate Program Students" enrolled in "Graduate Degree Programs"). The Director reports to the Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives and assists the Associate Dean in the administration and management of the Graduate Degree Programs, including programs run in conjunction with a third-party vendor. The Director must possess a Juris Doctor, or Juris Doctor equivalent, and may teach as needed with potential to be Assistant Professor. Responsibilities: General responsibilities include but are not limited to:Providing individualized academic planning for LLM and JM students, as well as students in any new initiative programs, including but not limited to specialized course selection advice, development of graduation plans, degree progress reports, providing bar exam information for LLM students, and advising students as to the law school's academic regulations;Providing individualized academic support for students as required by the Academic Standing and Student Affairs Committee and to those seeking assistance voluntarily;Developing and presenting academic skills programs and workshops on such items as course selection, academic success & skills, and exam workshops;Working in tandem with Graduate Program Career Services Staff to provide Graduate Program Students with a holistic counseling experience that encourages them to think about both academic and career items when charting their academic path;Developing and coordinating new Graduate Degree Program Student orientation with faculty and other law school departments;Collaborating with third-party vendors to support online student program completion and success;Assisting the Associate Dean with Graduate Degree Program calendars, adjunct selection and onboarding, scheduling, and curricular assessment and development;Collaborating with the Law School Records Office, and the staff assigned to Graduate Program Student records, to ensure continuity of registration and record management; andTeaching graduate and doctrinal classes; possibility of being an Assistant Professor.Required Qualifications:Juris Doctor or Juris Doctor equivalent (LLM);Legal experience in the private sector (at a law firm in the United State or at an international law firm that has an office in the United States) OR legal experience doing public interest or non-profit work in the United States;Demonstrated, effective presentation skills;Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusiveness, including but not limited to collaboration and programming;Demonstrated skill in effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication;A demonstrated work ethic, integrity and commitment to teamwork, with the ability and willingness to work collaboratively with internal and external constituencies;High level of ease working independently, with effective organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple and complex tasks and projects concurrently; andAs the Assistant Dean may be asked to teach doctrinal or legal writing courses, the Assistant Dean must be forward- thinking about enhancing instruction to students.Preferred Qualifications: Law school administrative or teaching experience; andFamiliarity with online education.
