Primary Purpose
The Controller oversees accounting practices and internal controls, prepares the financial statements, and participates in financial forecasts. Analyzes and interprets financial data and recommends changes to improve systems and financial performance. The position also directs the activities of the management information systems function. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function .

Primary Purpose
The Controller oversees accounting practices and internal controls, prepares the financial statements, and participates in financial forecasts. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function .
Responsibilities
- Manages the operations of accounting staff for Emmes' U.S. public sector business including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL and Payroll, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition
- Responsible for developing company financial picture for CFO
- Prepares and publishes timely monthly consolidated financial statements for multiple entities
- Coordinates the preparation of regulatory reporting
- Research technical accounting issues for compliance
- Leads month-end and year-end close process
- Ensures quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
- Manages and complies with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Leads the effort to support the financial statement audit and incurred cost audit
- Develops, documents, and maintains business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Recommends financial metrics and benchmarks to drive financial performance
- Closely partners with the FP&A function to support data needs and analysis
- Proactively partners with others outside of Finance and Accounting to resolve issues with optimal solutions
- Embodies the vision for providing an exceptional client experience to internal and external clients by responding timely to inquiries, offering an effective solution, and treating others with respect
- Supports the CFO in any aspects of due diligence for potential merger or acquisition opportunities
- Exercises good judgement and operates with a high level of professionalism and integrity
- Actively supports diversity and inclusion in all aspects of work
- Provides guidance, mentorship, and feedback related to staff development and performance
- Recognizes and creates an effective method of minimizing and addressing conflict
- Leads the internal efforts related to financial statement audits and tax returns
- Other duties as assigned
Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required with 10 years of experience in accounting with a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience
- MBA and/or Active CPA strongly preferred
- Experience working in a Federal Government Contracting environment is a plus
- Experience with Deltek Costpoint and Time & Expense strongly preferred
- Experience with M&A-related accounting preferred
- Experience with a private equity-backed business a plus
- Strong organization, time management, and analytical skills
- Proficient with MS Office applications
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and also collaboratively with others to achieve goals
- Self-starter and detail-oriented
