Engineering Aide I / II
An Overview
The Department of Transportation and Environmental Services (T&ES) is seeking an Engineering Aide I or Engineering Aide II to perform technical and skilled paraprofessional work to support the Permits Center. The primary focus of this position is to review, approve and issue permits for work in the right of way. The work is performed under general supervision by the permits Manger.
The OpportunityVerifies information by referring to plats and other sources; Prepares and processes purchase payment vouchers, and invoices; Reviews applications for utility lines, undergrounding, and waiver requests; Receives complaints and inquiries from departments and citizens, and responds accordingly; Performs related work and completes training as required. Minimum & Additional Requirements
To qualify for the role of Engineering Aide I , the candidate must possess a High School Diploma or GED with successful completion of high-school-level math and English courses; at least one year of experience in paraprofessional engineering work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
To qualify for the role of Engineering Aide II, the candidate must possess a High School Diploma or GED, with successful completion of college-level courses in engineering, architecture, physics, mathematics; at least three (3) year of engineering technician-level experience, at least one (1) year of which must have been performed at the level of Engineering Aide I; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
To be considered as an Ideal candidate for the role of Engineering Aide I, the candidate should possess all minimum qualifications as well as good knowledge of paraprofessional engineering practices and procedures; good knowledge, or ability to make mathematical computations; ability to read plats, plans, specifications, and blueprints; ability to communicate, clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with employees, contractors, and the general public; ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
To be considered as an ideal candidate for the role of Engineering Aide II, the candidate should possess all minimum qualifications as well as have good knowledge of paraprofessional engineering practices and procedures; ability to make mathematical computations; ability to read plats, plans; specifications, and blueprints; ability to communicate, clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with employees, contractors, and the general public; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; experience with any permitting program or software.

- Provides service for internal and external customers seeking information or applying for permits;
- Issues permits for public improvements by developers and contractors within the City limits;
- Reviews applications and issues permits for:
- reserved parking
- sidewalk and street closures
- excavation, construction, demolition, and hauling
- curb cuts to create new and/or widen existing driveway entrances
- noise variances
- special events
