Duties

  • Manage professional and/or technical personnel in a research and development environment.
  • Responsible for all technical aspects relative to the chemical and/or biological surety material.
  • Advise senior leadership on matters related to operations.
  • Develop plans, strategies, milestones, and schedules for distribution of work.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • Position has a business travel requirement of 50% of the time.
  • Position requires you to travel on short notice (i.e. less than 24 hour notice).
  • Position requires you to observe all state/federal regulations relating to hazardous waste management.
  • Position requires you to follow safety regulations and use proper protective gear or equipment.
  • Position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain Chemical and/or Biological Personnel Reliability Program certification.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the DE-03/GS13 grade level or band which includes: 1) finding ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work directed; 2) advising senior leadership on matters related to operations to include development of policy and procedures for chemical and biological operations;3) adjusting short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work; and 4) Performing a variety of daily chemical operational activities, such as the receipt, storage, handling, demilitarization, analysis and monitoring of chemical, biological and industrial devices at the Center or at other CONUS or OCONUS locations.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
