Mason Square Programming AssistantThe Offices of Events Management and University Life for Mason Square are seeking a part-time Programming Assistant to support event scheduling and execution of Mason Square Programs and Events. This position works collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to ensure successful program and event execution, community engagement, and social media promotion. The types of events the program assistant can expect to assist with include, but are not limited to, the outdoor summer concert series, movie nights, fitness classes, community engagement classes including juggling, stargazing, dance, meditation and more.This role requires effective communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work outdoors, and an interest in events and engaging with people. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable event production experience by working with dynamic and creative events designed to bring the Mason Square and Arlington community together. This position is perfect for those seeking to develop skills and knowledge relevant to the event planning and public space management fields.This position requires a flexible schedule, with some morning, evening, and/or weekend availability. Compensation is $13.00 per hour and Program Assistants may work anywhere between 15 - 30 hours per week, depending on availability and event schedules.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities:Execute Mason Square programs and events, including equipment setup, communication with instructors and/or performers, and supervision of the events;Serve as the Mason Square public liaison and interact with all visitors politely and patiently;Respond to and troubleshoot logistical event issues and manage accordingly;Responsible for setup and breakdown of event equipment and plaza games;Promotion of activities and events utilizing established social media channels;Document events by taking photos and conducting attendance counts;Prepare timely event reports;Prepare material for upcoming events including informational signage and programs; andAdministrative duties as needed, including assistance with planning and outreach, scheduling, and data entry.Required Qualifications:Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, twitter, TikTok);Flexibility to work non-traditional/flexible hours - must be available evenings and weekends if needed;Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively both individually and on a team;Ability to work with significant attention to detail;Demonstrate a "can do" and "no job too small" attitude;Ability to act with respect, professionalism, and amicability throughout entire shift;Ability and willingness to work outdoors in most weather conditions;Ability to take direction, but also problem-solve individually as needed; andAbility to lift 20 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally and stand for extended periods of time.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in event planning, staffing, recreation, retail and/or customer service preferred.
