Additionally, we strongly encourage current Library and Information Science (LIS) students or recent graduates to apply.About the Team:The Teaching and Learning Team of the University Libraries focuses on the information literacy needs of Mason's diverse undergraduate community. With an emphasis on serving students throughout the Mason Core curriculum, the Teaching and Learning Team creates dynamic and engaging learning experiences, which promote critical thinking and enhance George Mason University's teaching mission for creating a more just world. Through course-based instruction, on-demand workshops, and campus and community outreach, informed by iterative student learning assessment, the Teaching and Learning Team empowers undergraduates to succeed as students and community members.About the Position:These positions are responsible for supporting Mason's core mission of teaching, learning, and research. The Specialists will be primarily responsible for face-to-face information literacy instruction, but will also teach online, during one-on-one consultations, and in workshops both online and face-to-face. They will also assist the Instruction Coordinator in planning professional development opportunities for all library instructors at Mason.Responsibilities:Information literacy instruction, with an emphasis on face-to-face instruction in undergraduate English Composition courses;Planning and facilitating teaching-related professional development;Research and reference support, focused on undergraduate English Composition;Conducting student learning assessment and helping to plan and facilitate assessment-related training; andParticipating in outreach and student engagement efforts and helping to plan and lead them; andTeaching workshops and coordinating the workshops program.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience;Library public service experience, particularly in instruction, user services, and/or marketing and outreach;Teaching or training experience, with library instruction experience preferred;Demonstrated, effective research and reference skills;Ability to work effectively and courteously with diverse user populations; andEffective written and verbal communication.Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated library instruction experience (generally 2+ years);Demonstrated experience working in an academic library setting (generally 2+ years);Experience with instructional design;Experience with assessment, especially student learning assessment;Proficiency with current technology, especially course management software, citation management tools, and/or library instructional tools; andProject management experience.
