Compensation Consultant

An Overview
The Compensation Consultant is a member of in the City's Department of Human Resources (DHR) Compensation & HRIS team, supporting assigned departments with their compensation needs. The Compensation Consultant is responsible for managing the relationships of an assigned portfolio of City departments, consulting with them regarding their needs, providing guidance in identifying best courses of action and contributes to compensation planning within DHR and across the City.

The candidate selected for this opportunity should have strong working knowledge of market analysis and classification management. Candidates should have an understanding of pay systems, particularly with establishing base pay and assessing pay competitiveness in the market. A successful candidate will have experience conducting job analysis and making recommendations to department HR staff and leadership. Candidates must have strong experience working with and conducting analysis using Microsoft Excel.

The Opportunity
  • Partners with assigned departments and their HR related staff for Compensation related requests, including but not limited to reclassifications, pay adjustments, equity reviews, identifying hiring salaries, and issuing discretionary rewards.
  • Conducts analysis of requests, gathers data, interviews stakeholders and employees, and provides recommendations to departments that align with the City's compensation philosophy and the business objectives of the departments.
  • Develops and presents HR recommendations and results directly to departments.
  • Participates in and supports projects and initiatives in compensation.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the City's classifications and pay programs.
  • Monitors and maintains the Compensation Division's intake and distribution of department requests.
  • Participates in surveys and responds to requests for information from other jurisdictions. Maintains professional relationships with colleagues in the Classification and Compensation public sector arena, including those in the City's approved comparator jurisdictions.
  • Provides back-up support to fellow Compensation Consultants.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

To qualify for this position, all candidates must possess a bachelor's degree; three years professional experience in a human resources management field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

To be considered as an ideal candidate, candidates should possess at least three years of experience in compensation. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Experience writing and presenting reports. HR certification.
