Duties

The Medical Planner will develop and provide guidance on medical planning efforts, and effectively communicate with the CMO and other key partners and stakeholders regarding project and/or mission requirements.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Assist and support the CMO with medical direction of CBP operational medicine efforts;
  • Work collaboratively with the Medical Operations and Emergency Response Coordinator to coordinate OCMO emergency response coordination and Emergency Operations Center support;
  • Oversee and provide medical planning expertise to the CMO, other team members, and key partners/stakeholders;
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of project/mission requirements, and outline standards, policies, and steps for completion;
  • Develop requirements, resources, and timelines based on project/mission, including measures of project/mission success and completion;
  • Develop, modify and/or review medical planning concepts and solutions, and ensure quality control coordination;
  • Develop/draft medical plans and annexes to meet the requirements of the project/mission; and
  • Communicate planning concepts to the CMO and other key stakeholders, both verbally and through graphic/written reports.

  • Must be a current permanent Federal employee
  • Must have supervisory approval to apply to the Joint Duty Assignment. DHS 250-2 Application Form under "required documents" section.
  • Must NOT have any pending/outstanding disciplinary actions
  • Must have achieved a minimum of "meet expectations/proficiency" on latest performance appraisal/evaluation
  • Must be currently at the grade level of the detail. *No Temporary Promotion Opportunity*
  • The program does not apply to members of the Military service or contractors.
  • Non-CBP Federal employees are required to hold a Level 4 Background Investigation (BI). Interested applicants should check with their agency's local Security Officer to determine their BI level.


Qualifications

Qualifications required:
  • Logistics, planning, and/or coordination experience, required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, while managing conflict effectively.
  • Ability to adapt to sudden changes in schedules and work-related requirements.
  • High degree of independence, initiative, and follow-through on a wide range of sensitive, complex, and program issues.
  • Ability to manage a fast paced work environment with significant responsibility and short deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and professional manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Prior medical planning/logistics experience, preferred.
  • Previous government/ military logistics / operations experience, preferred.

    If the position requires a security clearance, employees must have a SECRET or TOP SECRET clearance to placement AND must maintain that level of clearance while performing in the position.

    Selected applicants for a JDA are requested to fulfill the items below during the JDA:
  • Complete the DHS Training Course 15 days prior to the arrival to the JDA.
  • Complete the DHS Joint Duty Assignment Progress Plan to include:
    • Phase 1: Establish assignment objectives within the first 30 days of the JDA.
    • Phase 2: Complete a self-assessment of the duties performed at the mid-point of the JDA.
    • Phase 3: Complete a final review within the last 30 days of the JDA.
  • Complete 12 hours of professional development using Skillsoft courses, videos, and books in conjunction with the established assignment objectives for the JDA.
  • Attend each of the DHS Joint Duty Program Director's quarterly webinars (1 hour per quarter).
