We currently have a permanent vacancy for a Principal Systems Engineer to join our proposal teams to provide technical leadership into all Leidos UK (Defence, National Security, Civil, Air Traffic Management and Central & Devolved Government) bids and proposals. The Principal Systems Engineer will be responsible for all Systems Engineering related responses to the bids and proposals, including project plans, estimates, requirements derivation & management, outline system architecture & design, systems engineering management plans, trade studies, delivery methodology definition, supplier selection and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tooling architecture as well as providing technical assurance during internal reviews that the proposals are deliverable. This will include ownership of any specialty engineering aspects (eg Safety, ILS) and Business Analyst related aspects. Applicants must have experience of Systems Engineering Management & artefact generation on various projects, including large scale Systems of Systems / Service Integration programmes ( pounds 500M+) Applicants must have or be eligible for SC Clearance (including having been resident in the UK for 5+ years) The successful candidate will be required to select appropriate systems engineering tools, methods and strategies in response to the bids and proposals, applying a rigorous and repeatable process to develop the required systems engineering related response material. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining a library of reusable material (documents, diagrams, templates, estimation models etc.) for use in subsequent proposals. To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who can quickly assimilate large, complex sets of requirements and solutions, provide innovative approaches to integration and testing and work as part of proposal teams to meet tight submission deadlines. Location: The prime location for the role is flexible with occasional travel to the Farnborough, Southampton, Bristol, Midlands & London areas. Mobility and willingness to travel, on an ad-hoc basis, to 200+ mile distances is essential. The Role You Will Play: The successful candidate will have a broad set of experience including a good understanding of various systems engineering methodologies and approaches, from Waterfall to Agile, including DevOps and automation. Using their experience in Systems Engineering, Systems Architecture and/or Management to deliver successful projects and programmes, the successful candidate will create innovative, efficient and effective responses to Systems Engineering related sections in bids and proposals. Job Description: Creating and presenting storyboards to outline the systems engineering response in the proposals Creating outline Systems Engineering Strategies, including specification of all standards, methods, processes and tools to be used for the full breadth of systems engineering (including specialist areas such as Safety, ILS, HMI/HFI) Creating project schedules for systems engineering, including estimates and justification for those estimates (Basis of Estimates) Reaching out to the wider Leidos systems engineering community for input, examples and references Working with the wider Leidos systems engineering community to stay current with evolving Leidos processes, tools and methods Maintaining a library of example proposal documents, templates, project references, estimating models etc. for reuse in later proposals Experience/Skills: Significant experience (5 - 10 years) within large scale/systems of systems/portfolio systems integration programmes Significant experience (10-15 years) of systems engineering planning, management and execution, preferably in large scale, complex virtualised and cloud computing environments Success in technical project management leadership, including systems engineering management Extensive background and experience in systems engineering, including exposure to MBSE, engineering management, systems architecture, requirements management, testing, ILS, Safety Significant experience in bids and proposals Comprehensive understanding and demonstrable implementation experience of defining & execution of various systems engineering strategies and methodologies at the portfolio/systems integration level Experience with agile development methodologies Able to use understanding of customer needs and expectations to generate mutually beneficial solutions or alternatives Can deliver clear messages through dialogue, written work and formal presentation Demonstrates commitment to sharing ideas, technologies and best practices Willingness to offer fresh, innovative ideas and/or unconventional approaches Significant experience across a number of broad technology disciplines, including domains such as digital transformation, mission critical, application consolidation, infrastructure design & migration (including Cloud & Data Centre), software development, service integration, and data analytics. Experience of technical management and execution of engineering activities, requirements analysis, implementation planning, third party coordination, integration and test, sustainment, documentation, deployment, and system assessment. Experience of defining processes and solutions for technical platforms, system specifications, system designs, input/output and working parameters for infrastructure and/or software compatibility. Experience of developing and maintaining systems engineering documentation and diagrams/models through use of traditional and MBSE tools. Experience of understanding and leveraging approaches to identify 1) Requirements that represent a gap in capabilities and 2) Opportunities for reuse. Experience of coordinating with enterprise stakeholders to prioritize product backlogs for sprints and releases. Experience of evaluating early designs compared to requirements and oversee systems engineering efforts. Experience of applying strong baseline, configuration and release management. PRINCIPAL Cyber Security architect Job Description As a Principal Security Architect you will be able to work with minimal direction on a range of large and small programmes that deliver IT transformation and new services capabilities. You will ensure that the solution security design meets the customer functional and non-functional security requirements and provides the necessary assurance to our client, highly likely to be backed up by rigorous accreditation and certification processes, normally HMG standards (including MOD-specific JSP) alongside ISO27001. You will have responsibility for interfacing to security design partners across programmes, both customer and supplier representatives, and colleagues within our engineering, service, and business development teams. You will ensure that Leidos can establish and maintain an effective and efficient security architecture for a programme, and that the designs will be able to adapt as customer requirements, legislation and accreditation standards change over a programme lifespan. Within a programme, the role will primarily be responsible to a solution architect for developing and delivering the relevant elements of a solution, whilst understanding the whole initiative. You will be required to work in both delivery and proposal environments. You may be required to work on multiple programmes at the same time and these may include bids, implementation of new systems and transformation of existing systems. You will have a complete understanding of cyber risk and treatment approaches. Based on a strong ability to communicate risk and its proportionate management, you will know how this issue is addressed both in traditional 'off-cloud' highly sensitive platforms, and naturally in cloud technologies. You will be experienced and accomplished in meeting the challenges associated with accrediting systems in public and private cloud environments. You will be required to develop high and low level security architecture designs for systems intended for secure/sensitive environments, with appropriate security based on detailed risk analysis. SABSA qualifications and experience would be desirable. The Leidos client base includes a number of national government departments and arms-length bodies, local authorities and providers of critical national infrastructure. We take our security obligations very seriously and will ensure there is a strong security component to all our proposals, and will be able to demonstrate a sound security operation is enabled by the solution we design for our clients. You will be required to hold security clearance under National Security Vetting and Police processes. You may need to work on customer locations or one of our secure development locations, or a mix of both, as well as an element of working from home. Requirements British - Non-dual national - many of our projects have nationality restrictions. SC cleared - Candidates should have or be willing to undergo SC, and if required, DV clearance. Eligible for Non-personnel Police Vetting level 3 standard (NPPV3) Skills/Experience Experience of a taking a defence in depth and multi layered approach to security architecture Experience of applying commensurate detective and protective security controls to reduce risk to an acceptable level Understanding of the controlling processes for, and experience of a significant portion of, the systems engineering lifecycle (eg requirements management, configuration management) Understanding of different lifecycles/methodologies (waterfall, incremental, agile, DevOps) Experience of the key engineering lifecycle reviews - eg System Requirements Review (SRR), Critical Design Review (CDR) Experience in performing design trade off working with other architects and engineers to deliver an integrated and coherent solution Understanding of service operations and security operational management planning Experience working in both delivery and proposal environments Experience of Defence Digital and relevant solutions and approaches across MOD Technology skills/Experience Excellent understanding of Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability (CIA) and practical experience in applying that Experience in defining derived security requirements for a system, and managing traceability Experience of gaining and maintaining accreditation for secure/sensitive systems Experience in producing security documentation sets (such as SyOPS, RMADs, Security Management Plan, ISMS and DART submissions) Understanding of the implementation, operation and maintenance of SIEM products Understanding of network and boundary protection technologies (firewalls, mail gateways, load balancers, anti-virus) Understanding of authentication and authorisation technologies (SAML, LDAP, PKI, etc) Understanding of security infrastructure in Public and Private cloud, eg virtual network infrastructure, hybrid IaaS/PaaS/SaaS solutions The ideal candidate will hold CISSP certification in addition to SABSA qualification Communication and Soft Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills and works well in a team environment Capable of developing and communicating a vision to meet the System Requirements Ability to communicate complex technical ideas across a wide range of different audiences A good level of commercial awareness that will support the bid and delivery environments What do we do for you?: At Leidos we are PASSIONATE about customer success, UNITED as a team and INSPIRED to make a difference.
