Qualifications
You qualify for a Microbiologist at the GS-14 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements:
Education Requirement:
A. I have successfully completed the requirements for a bachelor's (or graduate) degree in microbiology.
B. I have successfully completed the requirements for a bachelor's (or graduate) degree in biology, chemistry, or basic medical science. At least 20 semester hours need to be in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms and at least 20 semester hours need to be in the physical and mathematical sciences (combination of course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent).
C. I have a combination of experience and degree in microbiology education which includes courses comparable to a major in microbiology, or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as shown in A above, AND I have appropriate experience or additional education which demonstrates similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the duties of this position.
AND
Additional Experience:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: conducting research on international parasitic and related infectious diseases; developing new research approaches to resolve problems in evolving scientific or medical fields; establishing research agreements with internal or external organizations; developing and presenting research results via publications or presentation at scientific meetings; and managing the resources and staff of a research laboratory.
You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.

If selected the incumbent may perform the following duties:
- Serve as Principal Investigator in multiple study protocols and clinical trials involving the immunology of parasitic and related infectious diseases in India.
- Function as a collaborator on multiple lab and clinical studies.
- Determine the overall direction of the program, the originality and uniqueness of research approaches, and the integrity of the results, and coordinate the research efforts of the staff.
- Review and evaluate papers prepared by staff for submission for publication in scientific/medical journals or for presentation at scientific/medical meetings.
- Participate in multiple scientific committees of organizations such as the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, American Association of Immunology, TB Report, and societies in India dedicated to immunology and infectious diseases.
- Develop the laboratory infrastructure for collaborative research projects in Chennai, India.
- Responsible for administrative matters for ICER laboratory research programs, such as recruitment, training, and mentoring of staff, the use of laboratory space, equipment, supplies and services, the preparation and monitoring of annual operating budgets, and the allocation of funds to achieve maximum productivity.
