Engine Test Lab Technician/Engineer

This role supports the characterization of novel emissions control technologies on current and prototype passenger cars and trucks through the completion of routine maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair of complex analytical and control instrumentation. This position will also support the completion of routine testing as needed to critical catalyst development programs. Your responsibilities: Complying with all environmental, health and safety regulations and policies. Recognizing possible health and environmental risks followed-by acting to eliminate these hazards. Trouble shooting, repairing and maintaining test equipment and instrumentation. Familiarity with the analytical instrumentation used to measure automotive emissions. Experience in the operation and repair of FTIR, mass spectrometer or gas chromatography Participating in the design, installation, and validation of new analytical methods, instrumentation, and testing controls. Preparing maintenance and calibration documentation consistent with IATF 16949 and/or ISO-14001 requirements. Developing new custom test procedures with development scientist and customers. Removal and installation of exhaust systems and the system's components Operation of emission test instrumentation composed of complex analytical instrumentation, chassis dynamometer, and overall test cell control system. Reduction and evaluation of data for accuracy, precision and reliability. Support activities including proper inventory of instrument and control system components, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and participation in environmental, health and safety programs. Requirements for the role: Advanced mechanical skills required to maintain test cells, analyzers, and lab equipment preferred. A working knowledge of internal combustion engines and vehicle sub-systems to aid in the designing, setup, and troubleshooting of tests. A familiarity with or an ability to learn the theory of operation for automotive catalysts and the techniques used to evaluate their operation and durability. A bachelor's degree in a physical science or engineering; or an associate degree (or equivalent in a physical science) with applicable experience; or, an advanced vocation training certification in welding, machining, and/or drafting with experience in a laboratory environment.
