Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to provide the full range of technical and administrative production to Operation Support's offices and directorates.

Assignment responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Create and obtain visuals to communicate the educational and instructional concepts of the project using the most appropriate media;
  • Create and modifies computer images and graphics, storyboards, artwork, and other production elements;
  • Review and edit scripts to ensure production will meet client goals and ensure compliance with component or agency public affairs communication themes and messages, protocols, and policy;
  • Operate equipment used for the recording, production, reproduction, processing, broadcasting, distribution, storage, or exhibition of audiovisual products as well as standard recording equipment, video cameras, and related items such as lighting, sound, and editing equipment;
  • Takes photography, determines camera angles, proper shot sequencing, and audio and lighting requirements; and
  • Identify and acquire all resources needed for successful completion of the production.

  • Must be a current permanent Federal employee
  • Must have supervisory approval to apply to the Joint Duty Assignment. DHS 250-2 Application Form under "required documents" section.
  • Must NOT have any pending/outstanding disciplinary actions
  • Must have achieved a minimum of "meet expectations/proficiency" on latest performance appraisal/evaluation
  • Must be currently at the grade level of the detail. *No Temporary Promotion Opportunity*
  • The program does not apply to members of the Military service or contractors.


Qualifications

Qualifications required:
  • Knowledge of Adobe graphics software, Premier Pro, After Effects and Pro Tools is preferred but not required.
  • Skill in operating standard video recording equipment, video cameras, and related items such as lighting, sound, and editing equipment.
  • Ability to produce and direct an audiovisual production; edit films, video, and scripts; and create computer images for audiovisual products. Ability to communicate effectively.

    If the position requires a security clearance, employees must have a SECRET or TOP SECRET clearance to placement AND must maintain that level of clearance while performing in the position.

    Selected applicants for a JDA are requested to fulfill the items below during the JDA:
  • Complete the DHS Training Course 15 days prior to the arrival to the JDA.
  • Complete the DHS Joint Duty Assignment Progress Plan to include:
    • Phase 1: Establish assignment objectives within the first 30 days of the JDA.
    • Phase 2: Complete a self-assessment of the duties performed at the mid-point of the JDA.
    • Phase 3: Complete a final review within the last 30 days of the JDA.
  • Complete 12 hours of professional development using Skillsoft courses, videos, and books in conjunction with the established assignment objectives for the JDA.
  • Attend each of the DHS Joint Duty Program Director's quarterly webinars (1 hour per quarter).
