Job Posting Title: Victim Specialist (Open to All US Citizens) Are you interested in beginning a career with the FBI and supporting investigative and intelligence operations at America's premier national security and law enforcement agency? Do you have experience and the desire to work with law enforcement and/or victim service agencies to provide assistance to crime victims?As a Victim Specialist you will work directly with FBI Special Agents and serve as a critical link to ensure that victims of crimes investigated by the FBI are provided their rights and are connected to the necessary critical support services and resources. Victim Specialists provide direct services to victims of crime. "Direct Services" are defined as any act or assistance provided that supports the victim's ability to cope with the impact of victimization. Victim Specialists are designated by the FBI to provide comprehensive direct services (ie conducting needs assessments, providing information/notifications, engaging local resources, and referrals) at the earliest opportunity after detection of a crime, at which time it may be done without interfering with an investigation. Victim Specialists should conduct a needs assessment as appropriate for each victim to ensure all needs are addressed (ie physical, emotional, psychological, and financial). Direct services can be conducted in person, by phone or email. Providing direct services and information about services available are an integral part of victim assistance and the duties of a Victim Specialist.The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is looking for Victim Specialists. These positions are located throughout various Field Offices and their Resident Agencies. Must possess a Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in a specific field - See Basic Education Requirement section below. Must possess specialized experience in victim assistance, demonstrating a minimum of three years of full-time work experience providing direct services to victims of violent crimes and Indian Country victims; and, having worked within a law enforcement or victim service agency to assess, triage and provide crisis intervention and assistance to victims at the time they suffered direct or threatened physical, emotional, psychological, or pecuniary (financial) harm as a result of a violent crime. To ensure that the FBI Victim Service Providers maintain their effectiveness and safety even after repeated exposure to traumatic events, they are encouraged to have a self-care plan which includes self-assessment and wellness strategies. The well-being and resilience of FBI employees engaged in the provision of services to victims, and who are at risk for experiencing significant levels of distress as the result of intensive, and/or ongoing exposure to the trauma of others is the utmost importance. Major DutiesAs a Victim Specialist you will: Provides direct assistance services to persons who have suffered direct or threatened physical, emotional, psychological, or pecuniary harm as a result of violent crime, severe trauma, acts of terrorism, and/or fraud. Contacts victims, conducts needs assessment and develops an action plan for immediate and on-going services as indicated by the needs assessment. Provides crisis intervention services, which are directed toward de-escalating a situation, establishes physical and emotional safety, and provides concrete/basic needs services, emergency needs and reinforcing the victim's ability to make choices regarding possible courses of action. Maintains involvement either through outreach or membership on multidisciplinary teams, with local agencies that provide services to federal crime victims. Develops and implements trainings and presentations related to victim concerns and coordination with other federal and local law enforcement agencies, health, social services, schools, and advocacy organizations.Qualifications and EvaluationsPlease make sure your specialized experience/requirement(s) can be identified in your resume.
