As a Lead Software Engineer on our Machine Learning Infrastructure Team, you will be responsible for the fully automated develop/build/test/deploy system that Appian uses to manage its development of its core automation stack, especially its bleeding-edge ML offerings. You will work directly with the development team to assess and prioritize the current and upcoming needs of the organization, design/build/deploy new automation for all aspects of our development lifecycle, and maintain, troubleshoot and fix issues that impede our team's progress. Appian is headquartered in the McLean, Virginia area, and we are supportive of both Remote and Hybrid work environments. To be successful in this role, you need to: Mentor junior software engineers by sharing best-practices and providing guidance on how to become more proficient. Share advanced/expert knowledge with others in the department, both on and off team; maintain a reputation as a key resource in those areas. Lead technological changes to keep our platform modern. Effectively communicate technical designs verbally, visually and/or in writing for small to medium sized technical audiences. Be Fluent in at least one programming language, such as Python or Java Have passion for DevOps, Release Engineering and trends including CI, CD and Blue-Green Deployment Possess strong working knowledge of prevalent build and automation languages, such as Gradle, GitLab YAML and Bash/PowerShell Manage, configure and enhance our infrastructure, especially our CI/CD pipelines for ML features, using GitLab, Terraform, Jenkins, and custom tooling Leverage cutting edge technologies like Kubernetes and Docker, and designing and building new infrastructure features to increase product quality, decrease cycle time, and improve developer efficiency Automate every aspect of our development lifecycle, including infrastructure updates as dependent technologies evolve and scale (JDK, Python, application container baselines) Influence the technology roadmap in support of our mission to achieve continuous delivery Enable and supporting downstream teams to do DevSecOps well Some of the tools and resources we will equip you with include: Within your first few weeks of joining us, you will attend new hire orientation along with our 2-day engineering bootcamp to ensure you are set up for success Access to over 1,000+ Udemy course, along with dedicated learning time to focus on areas you specifically would like to focus on as a programmer An agile-led work environment where you will be challenged and your ideas will be heard Basic Qualifications: 7+ years experience building and delivering enterprise grade software applications in a high-volume or critical production service environment Proficiency working in AWS, and both Windows and Linux environments Fluency in Python or Java About Appian Before Appian was a company, it was an idea.
