The Clearinghouse is seeking a hands-on Cloud Data Engineer with a solid background in Data Warehouse architectures, cloud data movement design, and a proven ability to successfully implement cloud data solutions. The successful candidate will stay current on cloud development best practices and policies, propose data movement designs, and work with Data Architects, business partners and other stakeholders to code, refine and implement cloud data movement solutions. Currently, this position is 100% telework, however, as our company starts to return to our new normal, a hybrid work pattern, this position may be required to periodically work on-site at our office, and the frequency would depend on the department/division's requirements. Therefore, candidates must either reside within a reasonable distance to commute to our office, or be willing to travel to our office in Herndon and/or Pittsburgh, when required. How You Contribute: Demonstrate the Clearinghouse's competencies, which align with our corporate value Manager will provide more detail to candidates as needed. Customer Focus: Research new technologies and make recommendations to management to help with customer expectations. Ensure that user expectations are met during the development and configuration process. Design and implement requirements-driven data solutions with focus on the integrity, availability, timeliness, and traceability of data through the delivery lifecycle. Data literacy: Understand the business purpose of data, including how it is being used for a particular service and across the enterprise, how data is modeled, defined, validated, captured, cleansed, stored, reported, visualized and accessed. This allows the Data Engineer to design and code data movement solutions that fulfill business requirements and align to Clearinghouse's business language. Optimizes Work Processes: Play a key role in establishing and applying enterprise data management principles and standards at the Clearinghouse. Consider performance, data quality, data security, data governance, risk limitation and scalability in data engineering designs and implementation. Contribute to data architecture designs and data models to ensure alignment between designs and physical implementation of data assets and data movement scripts. Participate in the Clearinghouse's move toward Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery of cloud applications. Collaborates: Collaborate with Senior Data Engineers, Data Architects and other IT and Business roles to design and implement data movement solutions that meet business requirements and performance expectations. Contribute to the design and implementation of data management tools and platforms in collaboration with data architects, the infrastructure team, and other internal and external technology partners. Communicates Effectively: Understand business concepts and data transformation logic to write procedures that manage the data according to requirements. Actively participate in project level design reviews, Architecture Review Board (ARB) reviews, and provide feedback on design approaches being reviewed. Stay up to date on emerging technology and research new cloud-based data technologies, methods, and techniques to identify opportunities to increase the value of the Clearinghouse's data platforms. Write clear, concise, and accurate engineering documentation, and review data movement code to ensure that it transforms data correctly and that it meets the business requirements for data delivery. Update tasks on the scrum board with status, dependencies and blockers and communicate these items in daily stand-ups. Be Open and Authentic: Demonstrate openness to new perspectives and ideas. What You Bring to the Table: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or Information Systems, or some equivalent combination of education and experience, including military service will also be considered. Proficiency (typically acquired through 4-7 years of experience) in: Data engineering with an emphasis on data analytics and ETL coding. SQL, data transformations, analysis, and troubleshooting across multiple Database Platforms (Oracle, Redshift, Azure, PostgreSQL, etc.). Database performance monitoring and SQL optimization. Database design, Data Warehousing, and Master Data Management solutions. Metadata management. 1-3 years of experience with cloud-based data delivery technologies, including NoSQL DB Platforms (AWS-specific experience preferred - Redshift, RDS, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, DMS, S3, Glue, Orchestration, etc.) Experience working across multiple deployment environments including cloud, on-premises and hybrid platforms. Familiarity with AWS CLI, Azure CLI, or similar interfaces. Developing scripts using BASH, Python, etc. DevOps capabilities like version control, automated builds and release management using tools like GIT, SVN, Jenkins, etc. Experience working with Agile development methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban. Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate technical and nontechnical messages to all levels of staff. Strong organizational skills (must be detail-oriented), and the demonstrated ability to resolve problems quickly and successfully. A team player, and the demonstrated ability to work independently and directly with the data owners to gather requirements and architect change. Demonstrates the Clearinghouse's core competencies: customer focus, optimizes work processes, communicates effectively, collaborates, and is open and authentic. Live within a commutable distance of Herndon, VA, Pittsburgh, PA or may be performed remotely from any of the following states: AL, CA, CO, GA, FL, KY, ME, MD, NV, NJ, NC, NY, OH, PA, TN, TX, VA, WA, WY. Experience with: Oracle technologies including Oracle database and ODI Metadata management Data Vault architecture Cloud and open source-based data management technologies like AWS Redshift, DynamoDB, Postgres, Glue and Kinesis Certification(s) in AWS, Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform. Physical Demands: Use of a computer for 8 or more hours a day. Use of a copy machine, and telephone. Frequently required to sit for 7 or more hours per day, when in the office, may work in close proximity to others in an open office environment. Occasionally required to use hands and fingers to operate, handle, and reach. Vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work during maintenance windows, after business hours, and may be required to provide on-call remote, or 24/7 technical support. Must be able to travel occasionally via car, train, and/or airplane as needed (up to 10%).
