We are currently seeking three dynamic, highly organized Senior Equipment Operators. The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is a six-time National Recreational and Parks Association Gold Medal Award Winner. Located in Gaithersburg, Maryland and reporting directly to the Park Manager I, the Senior Equipment Operator will lead the Montgomery County Department of Parks in the completion of major complex projects. Go to our website to learn more: Management Division: The Senior Equipment Operator will be part of the Facilities Management Division. This Division of 118 staff provides for the care and maintenance of the Department's physical assets including facilities, pavement, fleet, and major building systems. With a budget over $13 million dollars, the division is responsible for facility condition assessments, major and minor maintenance programs, and serves as the primary support to the Department's Capital Improvement Projects (CIP). Examples of Important Duties Equipment Operation: Regularly operates Heavy Equipment (eg dozer, excavator, asphalt paver, mini excavator). Performs construction and maintenance work (eg, rough, fine grading and excavation of all types). Operates light to medium equipment, attachments, tree spades, small rollers, hydro seeders, and other various pieces of specialized equipment.Transports materials and equipment to and from job sites by operating dump trucks to haul, transport, stockpile, and dump materials (eg sand, gravel, rocks, salt).Operates trucks with snowplow attachments to plow and remove snow and ice from roads, driveways, and parking lots.Projects: Plans projects; identifies and determines equipment needs for assigned projects; typically, responsible for reviewing and reporting job progress. Reports crew work progress to supervisor. Makes recommendations to supervisor to correct outstanding issues on work projects.May meet with architects and engineers to review plans, blueprints and recommend changes to improve project work. May meet with vendors to plan work, obtain quotes; prepares purchase requisitions to hire vendors; monitor on-site vendor work. Checks purchases to ensure materials are received. Administrative: Maintains inventory of equipment, tools and assigned vehicles for crew. Completes required administrative paperwork and recordkeeping. Inspects equipment to ensure proper operation; provides routine maintenance and completes CDL logbooks.Performs critical Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) work to remove barriers and maintain compliance. * Reads and writes routine reports. Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with business contacts in a businesslike, customer service-oriented manner. Important Skills and Characteristics:Knowledge of heavy equipment operation procedures and characteristicsKnowledge of standards (eg Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Department of Motor Vehicles) and of specialized equipment used in equipment operation and safety.Knowledge of excavation and grading site work. Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act as it relates to site work. Knowledge of Storm Water Management compliance. Preferred Qualifications:Must possess a valid Class A CDL Commercial Driver's LicenseAbility to read and understand site plans. Construction and excavating experienceKnowledge of surveying equipment Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).Three years of equipment operation, including a minimum of one year of experience using heavy equipment.Must possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements at time of employment. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.Successfully pass Commission medical examination. Supplemental Information Class/Specification: Equipment Operator II (5741)Working Conditions: Incumbents in this class must frequently: remain in a stationary position, move about inside the office and outside, operate vehicles, tools, equipment, ascend and descend ladders, position self to complete manual work, move equipment, tools and supplies weighing up to 100 pounds, and work in outdoor weather conditions.
