Job Description Summary:Acts as the subject matter expert (SME) in data analytical techniques, tools, and platforms. Synthesizes financial, or other operational data sets to perform comparative and predictive analyses of business issues and support business-case development. Performs advanced business analyses using various tools and techniques, eg, explanatory and predictive modeling, data mining, data storage, data automation and visualization. Translates data into useful strategic and tactical insights for leadership decision-making. Develops, analyzes, tests, modifies, standardizes, and documents data preparation, data validation, data model, data storage, and data automation processes. Manages data analytic projects, including deployment of new solutions and implementation of enhancements to existing technology solutions. Develops and proposes new process improvements, changes to existing tools and platforms. Troubleshoots complex functional data issues and manages issue resolution. Manages maintenance of technologies such as Tableau through creation of standard procedures, training documentation, and communication for business users. Leads testing efforts for the responsible database(s) and systems. Ensures quality customer service. Trains junior data analytical staff and serves as resource to others. May supervise staff. Applies advanced professional level knowledge to independently solve a full range of complex problems. Assignments are broadly defined and require judgment and creativity to complete. Work is generally both independent and collaborative in nature. Establishes processes/procedures to ensure the effective and efficient operation of function. Job typically found in a data analytical team with multiple levels of data analytical staff. May supervise or oversee the work of data analysts. Serves as an expert resource to others in own discipline.Job Description:ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIESDuties may be performed solely for a specific business or functional area or a combination of areas. Extracts and performs advanced analysis of data in order to investigate complex business problems through a range of data preparation, modeling, analysis and/or visualization techniques, including predictive analysis, business intelligence, pattern recognition, and/or operational effectiveness. Models the outcome of implementing potential business strategies. Reviews analyses to develop insights. Develop reporting within Workday Financials and Workday Adaptive both independently and in collaboration with other Budget Office staff.Creates data visualization mock-ups and business intelligence platform-based prototypes that reflect the appropriate context to inform decision-making.Develops, analyzes, tests, modifies, standardizes, and documents data preparation, data validation, data model, data storage, and data automation processes. Ensures the accuracy, completeness, reliability and relevance of data sets and data models. Manages data analytical and visualization platforms (eg Tableau). Performs system and usability testing. Monitors and ensures data quality, performance. Improves processes and systems that work in tandem with Tableau. May manages the Tableau sandbox environment. May track and monitor utilization of Tableau Desktop, Tableau Prep and Tableau Online and provide ongoing recommendations to enhance utilization of license assets.Manages dashboards. Provides support on resolving issues with extracts and technical components of dashboards. Supports technical components of dashboard development such as consulting on coding buildout. Manages data analytic projects, including deployment of new solutions and implementation of enhancements to existing technology solutions. Leads implementation of new data analytical methods and procedures. May deploy and monitor data analytics models to ensure good performance and efficiency. Prepares complex reports other ad hoc analyses. Ensures accuracy and consistency of reporting. Makes alterations to existing reporting tools to gather and report data as necessary. May identify opportunities for building self-service and other reporting tools to meet reporting needs and create efficiencies within the process.Troubleshoots end user problems and develops solutions. Documents solutions for reference. Brings industry-level expertise to data analytical techniques and recommends changes to remain up-to-date or competitive. Develops new reports and analyses, along with insights and deliverables, to better support the business. Strategizes on data and technology needs. Plays an instrumental role in selecting analytical products and new ways of applying technology to the work of the organization.Works closely with leadership and staff to identify analytical requirements. Serves as a resource to management, responding to questions, providing guidance on best practices and approaches to modeling and analyzing data. Mentors, collaborates with, and advises data analytics team members. May trains and coach analytical staff. If supervising staff, provides leadership and mentors employees. Trains and develops employees to successfully perform current responsibilities and encourages development of staff for future roles. Forms effective teams and cultivates a work environment that fosters teamwork. Interprets and ensures consistent application of organizational policies. Initiates personnel actions, including performance and compensation reviews and disciplinary actions. Maintains an appropriate standard of confidentiality. When handling secure, privileged, sensitive, or confidential information and matters, maintains strict confidence and exercises care to prevent disclosure to others. NONESSENTIAL JOB DUTIESRelated duties and special projects as assigned.JOB SPECIFICATIONSRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of up-to-date data analysis techniques. Deep understanding of utilization of data analysis and visualization tools, platforms, and software (eg, Power BI, Tableau, Google Analytics, ERP/CRM systems). Above average to advance level computer skills, to include SQL and Excel.. Abilities to analyze highly complex data. Strong organizational, problem solving, and presentation skills. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced office environment during peak periods. Ability to manage and maintain privileged, sensitive, and confidential information and matters appropriately. Ability to solve non-routine intellectual problems of substantial variety and complexity using originality and ingenuity. Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems. Ability to use substantial latitude for independent judgment and action. Experience working in complex environments with a high degree of organizational effectiveness. Ability to successfully work in a team environment and to form and maintain effective teams. Ability to develop relationships with co-workers and employees in other National Academies' departments through effective communication. Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees. Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in relevant field or related field, or equivalent knowledge. Master's Degree is preferred.Minimum Experience: Six years of related professional experience. Experience in developing complex queries, data analysis and reports is desired.Physical Capabilities: Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: None.Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: Reports to Associate Director of Budget and Cost Analysis. General direction is provided. May supervise staff.Work Environment: Hybrid Office/Telecommute environment, with occasional travel between National Academies' facilities and to off-site meeting/sponsor locations.
