Principal Analyst, Capital Markets & Risk

Capital One is seeking a motivated professional for a Principal Associate position within the Finance Risk Management (FRM) team. FRM associates are engaged and insightful risk management partners working across the Finance organization to execute robust and proactive risk management programs, improve effectiveness and efficiency of operation while reducing risk and influencing risk stakeholders, i.e., risk offices, compliance, internal audit, and regulators. FRM strives to enable a strong culture of risk management across Finance that is adaptable to a changing environment.

This position will have a heavy focus on our Technology and Cyber operational risk programs across Capital One's Finance organization, with opportunities to engage in other finance-related initiatives in support of our business partners. Ability to direct the work of others with demonstrated problem solving, influencing, and communication skills along with an ability to work strategically within and beyond the Finance division will contribute to the candidate's success.

General Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the Finance organization's adherence to internal policies and standards related to technology and cyber risk programs.
  • Identify opportunities and collaborate within and beyond FRM to mature our technology risk framework ensuring effective control practices, governance, and supporting documentation.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of the Finance organization's operational risk reporting in order to provide risk insights to support Finance business, product, and tech leaders as they set priorities and make decisions.
  • Participate in and execute other special projects for the team on a periodic basis.
  • Develop and maintain documentation to include procedures, presentations and training materials.
  • Advise and support vertical risk advisors and business partners during risk assessments, internal audits, and regulatory exams.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in Financial Services
  • At least 2 years of Operational Risk Management practice


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of Operational Risk Management practice with at least one year of focus in Information Systems risk management,
  • Education and/or experience with cloud-based technologies, e.g. Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or related certification(s)
  • 2 years in project or product management
  • Demonstrated excellence with communications and presentations to senior leadership stakeholders
