Manager - Product Management, Supplier Risk Identification Application/NLP Workbench

About this role

Are you an experienced Product Manager looking for a new challenge? Join a passionate and entrepreneurial team that embraces bold ideas, fosters collaboration, and delivers great experiences for our practitioners and LOB customers.

We are seeking a Manager, Product Management to join our Enterprise Supplier Management (ESM) Strategic Capabilities team. In ESM, we empower associates to deliver their best by cultivating a culture of inclusion and belonging, where varying perspectives and opinions are valued. We embrace each other's differences and encourage all team members to lean into their talents and skills to deliver superior experiences for both internal and external clients.

We are at the forefront of innovation in using data and Machine Learning to enhance Capital One's third party risk mitigation efforts. Utilizing NLP and ML models, the Supplier Risk Identification Application (SRIA) crawls for news about our suppliers and detects those items that may require action, alerting our Third Party Managers to these events. NLP Workbench enables the end-to-end build, training, testing, and publishing of those and other NLP ML models through a unique experience.

As the Product Owner of both SRIA and the NLP Workbench, you will be responsible for planning and delivering on the vision, strategy, and roadmap of the platforms. You will work with our engineering teams to deliver work flawlessly, and you will work with our customers to make sure that work aligns deeply with their business priorities.

On any given day in ESM you'll be:
  • Empowered. Part of a team driving ESM's data and Machine Learning agenda to mitigate supplier risk.
  • Learning constantly. Work deeply with customers, associates, third party managers, technologists and data scientists to build cutting edge solutions.
  • Innovating relentlessly. Pushing big change by asking bold questions; starting small, testing, and learning your way to something dramatically better.
  • Sharing openly. Telling stories that change the way people think about building products and solving problems, and that illustrate the power of what software can do to make them even better.
  • Connecting creatively. Jumpstarting a self-supporting community by sowing the right seeds, building the right tools, integrating the right off-the-shelf products and just plain elbow grease.
  • Succeeding strategically. Solving the right problem and putting the wrong one on hold.

Here is what you will bring to the table:
  • Curious. You ask why, you explore, you're not afraid to blurt out your crazy idea, or follow an email chain for weeks to find someone with an answer.
  • Do-er. You have a bias toward action, you try things, and sometimes you fail. You dug up a hidden feature in an API that let you do something really cool or introduced a new routine that broke down silos that led to better decisions.
  • Passionate. You care about growing others and bringing them together around what's possible.
  • Communicator. You can communicate complex ideas clearly, your team knows their priorities and why they're doing what they're doing. Maybe you're an introvert, or maybe you're an extrovert, but nobody accuses you of keeping them out of the loop.
  • Wrangler. You've gotten back-end engineers to play nice with front-end developers, you can inspire an ETL developer to write creatively about her latest pipeline.
  • Fearless. Big, undefined problems don't frighten you. You can work at a tiny crack until you've broken open the whole nut. You are comfortable saying no.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 1 year prior experience as a digital Product Manager or Product Owner.
  • At least 1 year experience managing a digital product in an Agile environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 3 years prior experience as a digital Product Manager or Product Owner.
  • At least 3 years demonstrable experience managing a digital product in an Agile environment
  • Product Management training and/or certification from one of the major industry-standard providers (Pragmatic Marketing, 280 Group, AIPMM, etc).
  • Agile training and/or certification as a Product Owner in one of the major Agile methodologies (Scrum, XP, Kanban, Scaled Agile, etc).
