Energize your future by joining our team at Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative! We are in need of a Staff Accountant for our Manassas, Virginia location. This position will apply principles of accounting and budgeting to ensure effective accounting and control, measuring, and reporting of the financial condition of NOVEC and its subsidiaries. The selected candidate will perform general ledger and cash transaction accounting. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:Prepares monthly journal entries. Performs administrative, general expense and cash account analysis. Assists with the monthly closing process and maintenance of the chart of accounts. Analyzes and reconciles NOVEC general ledger accounts for accuracy and reasonableness.Reconciles daily funds including lockbox, ACH, cash, and credit cards to the appropriate bank accounts. Reconciles operating payroll, investment, cafeteria plan, and escrow bank accounts.Conducts bank reconciliation, record cash and other transactions directly to the general ledger. Prepares reports, statements, and documents for NOVEC management and external authorities.Reviews technical accounting issues, provides assistance to accounting staff and other departments, and recommends revisions to ensure efficient and accurate NOVEC operations in accordance with accepted accounting standards and practices.Handles and maintains integrity and confidentiality of highly sensitive human resource and management information records.Works continually towards self-development to stay current on accounting, tax, budgeting, and financial procedures and practices.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three to five years of related experience and/or training in general accounting is strongly desired. Experience with Lawson software is preferred. SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Demonstrated ability to function independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team.Demonstrated knowledge of company policies and procedures as well as all applicable federal, state, and local laws. Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and mathematical skills. Knowledge of payroll and budgeting systems, accounting theory, financial theory and tax law.Demonstrated proficiency with general computer operation, Microsoft Office applications and accounting systems.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with all levels within the organization.Ability to anticipate and meet rapidly changing customer and business needs by quickly refocusing and realigning strategic and operational direction.Strong analytical, organization, communication, and negotiation skills.If you're ready to take the next step towards advancing your career, apply today!
