We know that investing in our employees' futures strengthens ours, which is why we offer competitive compensation, incentives and health and retirement benefits.PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITIONThe Senior Communications Specialist is responsible for the development and execution of sound communications strategies and plans for Pepco, which serves Washington, DC and Montgomery and Prince George's Counties in Maryland. This position developskey messaging, talking points, and media statements in response to emergent issues, and positions the company positively with the media, stakeholders and customers. The Specialist serves as a point of contact for external and internal communications and works in or with the business units, including key leadership, and corporate communications, to develop and coordinate the positioning of strategic content to enhance corporate brand, reputation and identity. Responsibilities include development and implementation of communications strategies and tactics such as, news releases and media pitching, speeches/remarks, key messaging and talking points, internal communications, collateral materials, event coordination, and interaction with and oversight of vendors. This position reports to the Regional Communications Manager.PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIESManage the company's reputation through effective communication of company goals and initiatives to internal and external stakeholdersDevelop and execute external communications strategies, plans, programs and initiatives.Manage a variety of internal, external communications tasks to support leadership, including news releases, speeches and remarks, key messaging and talking points, collateral materials and other materials. Develop and maintain strong working relationship with local press, stakeholders, and other business unit peers and leadership.Positively position company initiatives with local media to secure stories that advance the company reputation and satisfaction among customers and key stakeholders. JOB SCOPEThis position reports to the Regional Communications ManagerPosition activities are focused on external communications to customers, stakeholders, and the media in support of initiatives and projects developed by communications and business unit organizations for broader applicationRequires significant outreach to internal and external audiences and development of strong relationshipsInvolves proactive communication planning and plan execution, project leadership and a high level of coordination with other communication functions across the business.Requires ability to develop communications strategiesRequires ability to travelWorks under minimal supervisionQualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS4-year relevant degree and a minimum of 5 to 8 years experience in communications (media relations, employee communications or advertising). Proven, excellent communications skills; both written and interpersonal. Strong analytical skillsExcellent organizational and presentation skillsProven ability to be innovative and creativeAbility to work autonomously and interface easily with senior business leaders and the local press.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSMasters degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Advertising, or related fieldEnergy business/industry knowledge
