Entry Level Staff Accountant
The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is seeking a Staff Accountant. NAEYC is a professional membership organization that works to promote high-quality early learning for all young children, birth through age 8, by connecting early childhood practice, policy, and research. NAEYC advances a diverse, dynamic early childhood profession and supports all who care for, educate, and work on behalf of young children.Reporting to the Finance and Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant will uphold the integrity and accuracy for NAEYC's financials. This includes processing payments/receipts in a timely manner and reconciling the statement of financial position and statement of activities on a monthly basis in accordance with generally established accounting principles and NAEYC accounting and finance policies.Key ResponsibilitiesReconcile assigned general ledger accounts each month by the deadline; complete monthly schedules audit to ensure that reconciliation was complete and accurate, any reconciling variances were investigated and resolved, monthly schedules were reconciled to the general ledger accounts, and when applicable, schedules provided the necessary information for the audited financial statement footnotes Review, process, and close the cash receipts and/or disbursements daily in NAEYC's account management system or accounting system to ensure an informal close is performed on a weekly basis Review all transactions for appropriate documentation and approval prior to processing, payment, and/or receipt and distribution/shipment of products ordered and confirm that transactions are recorded to the proper time period and accurate amount, coded to the correct general ledger accounts, and were appropriately authorized Review accounting records, including financial statements and other financial reports to confirm accuracy, completeness and conformance to standards defined within the department Use current technologies and systems for the maintenance of accurate and complete financial records, to complete assigned projects, to collaborate and engage with other NAEYC business areas, to handle sensitive data, and to respond to basic accounting inquiriesEducation and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Accounting, or related field, or expansive related experience to demonstrate knowledge base 1-2 years of accounting experience; internships may be considered as equivalent Accounting experience in an association a plus Experienced with computerized accounting and database systemsKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesSolid knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) standards Proven ability using Microsoft 365, with strong expertise in Excel required Knowledge of Sage Intacct and NetForum a plus Demonstrated self-motivation, a self-starter and team player with the ability to balance competing demands on a variety of matters and work independently to deliver results on time An effective problem-solver with excellent organizational skills and strong attention to details Ability to manage time to deliver on multiple priorities, adhering to tight deadlines Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, listeningPhysical Demands There are specific physical demands that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
