Accounts Payable AssistantThe George Mason University Foundation Inc invites qualified candidates to apply for a part-time Accounts Payable Assistant position.The Accounts Payable Assistant position typically works 20 hours per week and provides accounting and clerical support to the Foundation's A/P Manager, Senior Accountant, Controller, and the remaining members of the Foundation Business Office as needed.George Mason University Foundation is a 501c (3) non-profit foundation and a private corporation organized and operated exclusively for the benefit of George Mason University. The Foundation manages, invests, and administers private gifts, including endowments and real property for the benefit of the University.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities:Serve as backup to the A/P Manager, processing the majority of the incoming batches each week, with the assistance of the A/P Manager. Preparation of vouchers, preparation and processing of check runs, and organization/filing of related materials;Enter and post journal entries for Foundation Business Office, including the review of all transfer requests. File departmental accounting records, investment statements, journal entries, and other accounting correspondences as appropriate; andIn addition, special assignments as requested by the Controller. Assist Foundation Business Office staff as needed with various projects and reports as needed for BOT, Central Advancement, and Units.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in business or related field; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience;Previous work experience in a financial environment (specifically a not-for-profit or university setting);Demonstrated experience in general accounting and administrative work;Demonstrated skill in effective oral and written communication;Ability to work independently and be self-motivated;Ability to utilize accounting databases and fundraising databases in the completion of tasks;Ability to be organized and manage overlapping tasks; andAbility to develop a clear understanding of Foundation and University policies to clearly communicate policy information.Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of financial reconciliation and familiarity with accounts payable; andKnowledge of Abila, MIP, or Ellucian Advance.
