Term Assistant Professor (Non-tenure-track Assistant Professor)George Mason University's Higher Education Program (HEP) invites applications for a term assistant professor (non-tenure track and teaching-focused assistant professor) position. This is a full-time, 12-month faculty appointment to begin in either spring or fall 2023. With our proximity to Washington, D.C., our alums work in a wide array of jobs inside and outside higher education institutions. The interdisciplinary, graduate-level curriculum focuses on leadership, the scholarship of teaching and learning, student affairs, policy and administration, technology, and equity and diversity. The program offers a master's degree in higher education and student development (both online and in-person), a Ph.D. degree in education, and two graduate certificates in college teaching and higher education administration. Mason's campus culture values dialogue, diversity, inclusion, innovation, and collaboration.Responsibilities:HEP is seeking a collaborative, dedicated, and student-centered colleague who will:Teach graduate-level in-person and online courses in the Higher Education Program;Coordinating student internships and practicums throughout the year (teaching practicum courses are a part of the teaching load);Assist with other administrative and program duties such as, but not limited to, advising students, program development, internship/practicum supervision, and committee work;Teach, support, and advise graduate students in preparation for careers in higher education and student affairs;Serve on departmental, college, and university committees; andActively engage in regional and national professional associations.Required Qualifications:The candidate must hold a terminal degree in higher education or a related field to be completed by the start of employment.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in graduate-level teaching in both in-person and online classes;Experience as a higher education or student affairs administrator;Experience working with diverse student populations such as adult and returning students, historically underrepresented student populations, first-generation college students, and/or international students;Active involvement in relevant higher education professional associations; andExperience working across disciplines and ideologies.
