Duties

  • You will perform a risk assessment of information systems to identify protection needs.

  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area 431 within 12 months of appointment.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.


Qualifications

FOR GS-11: In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies below, I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-9) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public performing the following:1) Administering system configuration databases to facilitate the management of system resources; 2) Identifying and record changes to a configuration baseline to establish configuration change control; 3) Integrating new software assets to meet changes in organizational business processes; 4) Performing risk assessments of information systems to develop new approaches in resolving security issues.

FOR GS-09: In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public performing the following: 1) Performing server commissioning/decommissioning and configuration change testing; 2) Performing risk management assessment; and 3) Providing guidance for cloud services and configuration changes.

3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Applicants may qualify with the following education in lieu of the specialized experience qualification:

For GS-11: Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management.

OR

Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, graduate education that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

For GS-9: Successful completion of a master's degree or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management.

OR

Successfully completed 2 full years (36 hours) of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, graduate education that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
