Responsibilities: NASA Federal Credit Union is looking for an experienced Consumer Lending Underwriter to review and approve consumer loans based upon the assigned level of loan authority. This position is responsible for the timely and accurate decisioning of consumer lending products utilizing the Credit Union's credit granting guidelines. It will communicate loan policy and procedural information via multiple communication channels to existing and potential Credit Union membership. It will also decision routine and complex loan requests by validating loan data, examining documentation, identifying loan fraud, evaluating/mitigating risk within delegated authority. It may review previously decisioned transactions for accuracy and adherence to the Credit Union's underwriting and corporate policies. This position will prepare loan documentation for either direct lending team (customer facing) or indirect team (auto dealer facing). Consumer Lending Underwriter I: Decisions applications submitted, placing emphasis on response time, quantity of applications processed, and quality of applications approved Obtains credit reports, evaluates credit worthiness and performs credit investigations when necessary Structures approvals to enhance the Consumer Lending portfolio and maximize member relationships Meets or exceeds agreed upon targets for volume, conversion ratios, and other business metrics Interacts with members to verify and update all loan information while identifying the need for other Credit Union products Consumer Lending Underwriter II: (In addition to the requirements of Level I) Tests operating systems and updates to core computer programs to detect errors and programming. problems, and reports findings/recommendations for adjustments to AVP of Consumer Lending Resolves any complaints in a professional manner and evaluates suggestions for improvement May act as a mentor to Loan Processors and Underwriter Is Researches loans with potential fraud using third-party systems Senior Underwriter: (In addition to the requirements of Level I & II) When instructed, assists Team Leads with on-going business development needs Assists the Collection Department in reviewing delinquency rewrites When assigned, prepares and maintains periodic reporting to help drive underwriting efficiencies and uniformity across all lending products May act as a mentor to Underwriter I & IIs Participates in Consumer Lending initiated projects Helps identify software issues Submits process improvement ideas based upon member experience and observation Provides support to Team Lead when investigating fraud Assists Consumer Lending Teams with loan origination system and multimedia communication queue management Qualifications: Consumer Lending Underwriter I: High school diploma or equivalent Two years or less of related experience and/or training Works under immediate supervision Consumer Lending Underwriter II: High school diploma or equivalent Three or more years of consumer lending underwriting experience is required with demonstrated knowledge of standard consumer lending products, policy/procedures and regulations Works under general supervision and has a higher level of loan authority than the Underwriter I Consumer Lending Underwriter Senior: High school diploma or equivalent Degree in a relevant field preferred Ten or more years of consumer lending underwriting experience is required with demonstrated knowledge of standard consumer lending products, policy/procedures and regulations (unless skills are deemed appropriate by the VP of Retail Services). Works under general supervision. Has a higher level of loan authority than the Underwriter II Work Schedule: Multiple shifts are needed to cover the work hours for this position and may be assigned as follows: Monday - Friday, shifts beginning as early as 8:00 am and ending as late as 8:00 pm EST. Saturday: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm EST. Later weekday hours and weekends may be worked remotely. Shift assignments are based upon the needs of the Credit Union which can require overtime.
