We are currently seeking a Biological Scientist with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.This is a long-term contract position which offers:- Competitive salary with comprehensive benefit package- Opportunity to work at NIH, the world's foremost medical research center- Learn more about what Kelly can do for you at www.kellygovernmentsolutions.comOBJECTIVE:Provide technical and laboratory support to the Neuropathology Unit at NINDS.**Skills**- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team, possession of excellenttime management and organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and shift priorities when required. - Excellent written and oral communication skills. - Proficiency in record keeping and computer skills, including working with spread sheets/databases. -Knowledge of BSL-2 precautions for handling clinical specimens -Experience in histology and immunohistochemistry techniques. -Several years of laboratory experience in biology lab skills (cell culture, molecular biology, and small animal husbandry)**TASKS:**Provides technical experience needed to assist in studying the basic principles of plant and animal lifeStudy basic principles of plant and animal life, such as origin, relationship, development, anatomy, and functionAssists with performing basic laboratory experiments and proceduresCollect and analyze biological data about relationships among and between organisms and their environmentMonitor and observe experiments, recording production and test data for evaluation by research personnelAnalyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findingsFollow established procedures and regulations for procurement, handling, and storage of patient tissue and fluidspecimens resulting from clinical research protocolsMonitor biorepository database entry including specimen inventory, tracking and documentation of usage, freezerstatus, and other required record keepingParticipate in FDA audits of specimen storage and tracking relating to clinical trialsPerform a variety of standard molecular biology and biochemical techniques such as PCR, DNA cloning and plasmidproduction, transfection, gene expression silencing, gene editing, gel electrophoresis, and Western blottingPerform standard cell culture techniques including cryopreservation.Establish primary cell cultures by mechanically and/or enzymatically dispersing normal and tumorous tissue.Perform various functional assays on cultured cells (eg, proliferation, invasion, regulation of geneexpression/differentiationPerform small animal husbandry including mouse colony maintenance and genotyping;
