Overview: AARP Foundation works to end senior poverty by helping vulnerable people over 50 build economic opportunity. The Director, Program Communications and Marketing leads and influences a team responsible for the strategy, development, execution, implementation, and measurement of multi-platform marketing and communications campaigns that support AARP Foundation's programs and services serving older adults with low income. The Director works with internal stakeholders to orchestrate activities that elevate the profile of AARP Foundation and generates broader awareness among target audiences, including volunteers, program beneficiaries, partners, AARP members, media, and the public. Also, the Director collaborates with senior management to develop strategic marketing plans to ensure continued successful growth. Responsibilities: Sets strategic direction for integrated marketing, provides guidance and oversees execution of results-oriented, integrated marketing campaigns that drive awareness for and engagement with AARP Foundation and align with growth goals. Directs the activities of staff in maximizing communications and marketing opportunities that increase visibility and participation in AARP Foundation programs and services.Collaborates with and influences internal partners on opportunities to integrate the Foundation brand and program messaging into enterprise communications.Guides and prioritizes the day-to-day work of team members and external agencies to help maximize efficiencies of operation, cost, and ensure brand compliance. Ensures output is on strategy, of the highest quality, and in line with brand standards.Uses Foundation research, and identifies opportunities for new research, to position brand as a leader in issues related to senior poverty. Collaborates with AARP Research to track brand equity, ad recall, and audience perceptions of the Foundation.Manages communications and marketing annual budget.Establishes benchmarks across campaigns, tracks progress, and identifies opportunities for improvement.Builds a culture where the marketing, development, and programming functions collaborate, and drive decisions informed by reliable market-tested data. Serves as a mentor and develops staff using a supportive and collaborative approach.Provides ongoing staff management, professional development, and process oversight. Manages budget allocation for content integration efforts and initiatives, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree preferred.10+ years of experience in strategic marketing communications. 3+ years of people management experience to include direct staff supervision, assignment of work, performance reviews, providing recommendations for salary, promotions, transfers, demotions, hiring and terminations.Must have experience in programmatic marketing. Experience in a social enterprise, start-up environment, or marketing agency is a plus.Must have experience reaching and acquiring customers through multiple channels, including e-mail, online, social, print, and radio.Story-telling ability, with experience in executive writing. Must be adept at guiding visual storytelling, including video, photography, and social media channels.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines, prioritize multiple concurrent projects requiring gathering, design, and project planning/management.Effective verbal and written communication skills.In-office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise.Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions.
