The Fairfax, VA office of Dewberry is seeking a Bridge/Structural Engineer with at least 4 years of experience in bridge design. In this position you will work on a variety of bridge and civil structural design projects including design build projects. Responsibilities
- Design bridges (steel plate girder, pre-stressed and reinforced concrete), foundations, box culverts, retaining walls, and a variety of civil transportation structures.
- Apply structural design procedures to develop engineering calculations and details, perform geometric layout, and utilize computer aided drafting and design software.
- Prepare and/or review drawings. quantity estimates, reports and specifications.
- Assist in the training and mentoring of junior staff.
- Bridge safety inspections on a limited basis. No more than 10% of time.
Required Skills & Required Experience
- BS in Civil Engineering. Master's degree is preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in design of bridges. Light rail or railway bridges would be a plus.
- FE required. A professional engineering license in the Commonwealth of Virginia is preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office software and Mathcad.
- Proficiency using CADD (Microstation preferred).
- Experience with the structural design software Leap Bridge, Merlin Dash, Descus, L-Pile/Group, and CSIBridge. (Experience in similar programs will be considered).
- Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and VDOT design standards.
- Willingness to work on Design-Build projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to perform bridge safety inspections. NBIS certification would be a plus.
- Valid driver's license and safe driving record
