Communications Manager The George Mason University, Office of University Branding is looking for a self-motivated and talented communications professional to promote and protect the university's brand by developing and promoting the research stories of Virginia's largest and most diverse public research university.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Position:The Communications Manager's primary purpose is to produce high-quality content that engages university stakeholders and builds Mason brand recognition. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, with brilliant presentation and organizational skills and able to multitask and work well under pressure. The Communications Manager will be responsible for developing, coordinating and executing effective messaging and communication plans. The incumbent will oversee the creation of promotional and informative materials that are disseminated to Mason audiences.The Communications Manager will oversee the development and the maintenance of the informational webpage that will serve as a digital press kit to external audiences ("About Mason"). This position will be responsible for identifying appropriate information for the webpage and will work across the university to ensure that the content is current and relevant. The Communications Manager will produce content that aligns with Mason's brand and promotes and informs audiences of university-wide initiatives.The position will report to the Assistant Vice President of Communications and will proactively create, assemble, and leverage information, content and messaging to create cohesive, consistent stories that will guide the university's communication of high-level projects and priorities. The Communications Manager will be responsible for ensuring the consistent communication of talking points and background materials across all Office of University Branding platforms. The incumbent will aggregate information for the creation of substantive stories and multimedia series and will also produce content for senior leadership, including talking points, email messages, FAQs and other administrative communications.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, or a related field; or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education;Demonstrated experience writing and editing;Demonstrated experienced creating multimedia/platform content;Demonstrated knowledge of communication practices and techniques;Ability to multitask and work well under pressure;Ability to consistently meet deadlines; andDemonstrated interpersonal skills, including being a team player capable of working collaboratively with colleagues and leadership.Preferred Qualifications:Advanced Degree;Proven experience creating targeted content; andExperience in higher education environment.
