Job Description

The Assistant Director of School Counseling (High School) assists in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive school counseling program in alignment with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) national model. The Assistant Director provides leadership for and supports a variety of strategic initiatives at the high school level aimed to increase academic and workplace readiness, social-emotional development, civic engagement, and post-secondary options for a diverse student body.

This job reports to the Director of School Counseling (High School).

Qualifications
  • Education: A master's degree in school counseling
  • Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education license with an endorsement in school counseling, or eligibility to obtain one through the completion of a master's degree in school counseling. The additional endorsement in Administration and Supervision is required.

Experience & Skills:
  • At least five years of experience working as a school counselor at the high school level with increased levels of responsibility
  • Demonstrated leadership experiences. Supervisory experience preferred
  • Master schedule experience preferred.
  • Ability to produce and deliver clear and accurate written and oral communication
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-up
  • Ability to collect, analyze, interpret and present participation, formative and outcome data
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multitask under tight deadlines
  • Proficiency with, or ability to learn, multiple applications including, but not limited to PowerSchool, Naviance, Mailchimp, Canvas, Google

Essential Functions
  • Provides leadership to fully integrate the full array of school counseling services into the total educational program of the ACHS Connected High School Network.
  • Provides leadership in the development and actualization of a master schedule that accommodates student requests and staffing and coordinates schedules between campuses to maximize opportunities.
  • Collaborates with partnering colleges and universities and other stakeholders regarding the development, delivery, and verification of dual enrollment courses, with an emphasis on maintaining and expanding opportunities.
  • Serves as the point of contact for dual enrollment courses outside of the Governor's Health Sciences Academy.
  • Develops and implements programming which allows for students to gain significant college credit and career skills while in high school.
  • Supports the expansion of ACPS Dual Enrollment & Early College initiatives related to the connected high school network model
  • Collaborates with partners to identify & strengthen work-based learning and civic engagement opportunities for students focusing on internships and externships.
  • Collects analyze, prepares, and reports data related to program progress in key areas aligned to ACHS strategic plans and school improvement efforts
  • Maintains high levels of effectiveness with Professional Learning Communities whereby student data are analyzed and teams collaborate for enhancing school improvement
  • Provides leadership in implementing MTSS that improve student learning and achievement outcomes
  • Oversees the implementation of the 504 process from initial meetings to classroom communication.
  • Serves on a variety of committees and the high school leadership team
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit throughout the school year

Other Duties as Assigned
  • Performs other specific job-related duties as directed by the Director of School Counseling or Executive Principal.
  • Assists and/or leads during unexpected, urgent, and emergency situations.


Clearances:
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test

Public Health Compliance
  • Proof of COVID vaccination. Exemptions for religious/medical will be reviewed.
  • Must follow safety and health protocols.
