Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a live news associate producer and guest booker to join our D.C. newsroom. This position plays a critical role in The Washington Post's anchored news coverage, working with reporters, editors and senior leadership to ensure the timely and effective delivery of a live show.

This producer will be expected to pitch and execute the production of news segments. Duties include producing in the field alongside on-camera reporters, writing scripts, identifying and seeking news-making interview opportunities, preparing news packages, booking and pre-interviewing show guests and working with senior producers to develop the editorial direction of our live coverage. This journalist will also be responsible for producing social clips for sharing during and after live coverage and will work with the graphics team to develop and deliver visual elements for on-air coverage.

The successful candidate possesses strong news judgment, sharp storytelling skills, in-depth political knowledge and a talent for finding emerging stories and angles. Candidates should be committed to speed, clarity and accuracy and should be agile in shifting rapidly from subject to subject. This producer should be comfortable and ready to produce coverage in breaking news situations as well as to plan for long-term, tentpole projects.

This role requires at least three years of experience in a fast-paced newsroom environment. Experience in a live broadcast news environment is required. Experience pitching and booking on-air guests is required. Familiarity with acquiring and verifying video for on-air use is key. Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro is required. Experience in a control room is preferred. Familiarity with ENPS or iNews preferred. This position is based in our Washington, D.C., newsroom.
