Job Summary

Aptive is seeking a Cyber Security Specialist to support a large federal government project that will be transforming an on premise, manual document ingestion process to an automated, highly secure cloud environment using Hyperscience software.

The ideal candidate would have demonstrated experience in enterprise support covering a wide range of Information Technology (IT) and Health IT services performing configuration of various document processing, automation, systems and software engineering, operations and maintenance. Government security systems and Hyperscience experience in this area is a big plus.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), is one of the country's largest and most complex organizations - with 1,600 care sites across 50 states and a staff of approximately 300,000 employees caring for over 6 million Veterans. Aptive requires professional and technical support services to assist the Deputy Under Secretary of Health (DUSH)-who is accountable for specific health care programs enabling and supporting virtually every aspect of patient care provided to Veterans-with the development, administration, and management of various emerging initiatives, some of which are legislatively mandated. Aptive serves as the VHA strategic partner to transform a wide range of Information Technology (IT) and Health IT services, including program management and strategic planning, systems and software engineering, enterprise networks, cyber security, operations and maintenance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with system owners to create their ATO packages.
  • Review artifacts for compliance and map those artifacts to the appropriate NIST 800-53 controls (specifically, CCIs).
  • Review control implementation statements for compliance with VA policy.
  • Work with system teams to review/update their POAMs.
  • Help system teams to navigate the eMASS GRC tool throughout each of the RMF steps.
  • Perform activities that are closely aligned to the responsibilities of an ISSO.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electronics engineering, or other engineering or technical discipline is required. Additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 5 yrs related experience (6 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education).
  • Thorough comprehension of the Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Prior experience supporting system Authority to Operate (ATO) processes, and creating artifacts, control implementation details, and POAMs.
  • Thorough understanding of NIST 800-53 Rev. 4.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings, analyze authorization documents and associated artifacts against authorization requirements to identify gaps, establish a schedule to address outstanding authorization requirements, and coordinate directly with system team stakeholders.
  • Able to work independently and in teams.
  • Able to work core business hours of 8AM to 5PM (EST), Monday through Friday.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.


Desired Qualifications

  • Artifact generation and review experience.
  • Ability to engage with varying degrees of staff/leadership.
  • POAM Lifecycle management.
  • eMASS experience.
  • Understanding of information technology concepts, cloud computing methodologies (PAAS, SAAS, IAAS), Fedramp/AWS GovCloud, network/server topologies and configurations.
  • Certifications: CISSP, CISA, CAP, CISM, CRISC.
