Job Summary

Aptive is seeking a dedicated, forward looking Release Manager to support digital transformation within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This individual will work with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), VA Central Office (VACO) or the Office of Information Technology (OIT) to support the administration's mission with activities such as: project, product and product line management; moving from waterfall management processes to Agile and Scaled Agile practices; and from stove-piped development, delivery and operations processes to DevSecOps best practices such as Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD). We are seeking individuals committed to delivering and improving quality services to Veterans.

Primary Responsibilities

A Release Manager must have experience in management of individual releases of software, hardware or other system components. Must have experience in coordinating with QA, Development, packaging and hardware teams. The release manager must have experience in documenting releases, risks and in maintaining the schedule of planned releases. Must be proficient in some or all responsibilities:

  • Responsible for implementing and managing the release process from development to testing then finally to the production environments.
  • Provide the tools and services needed to help product teams manage and deploy code into production.
  • Communicate all key project plans, commitments, and changes including requirements.
  • Planning release windows and the overall release lifecycle.
  • Managing risks that may affect release scope.
  • Ensure releases are delivered within budget and requirements.
  • Coordinate the release schedule and resources required depending upon the third-party applications, defect backlogs, planned releases, and infrastructure updates.
  • Maintain documentation related to procedures on build and release, various notifications lists, and dependencies.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Related Scientific /Technical Discipline is required.
    (8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education)
  • 10 years related experience required.
  • Must have experience in management of individual releases of software, hardware, or other system components.
  • Must have experience in coordinating with QA, Development, packaging, and hardware teams.
  • Experience in documenting releases, risks and in maintaining the schedule of planned releases.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large Cabinet-level federal agencies, ideally the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Strong customer interaction skills and a demonstrated ability to work with various stakeholders-including government Senior Executives-across multiple tasks.
  • Experience developing and delivering compelling, informative, and professionally written prose is a requirement, as is the ability to manage the editing and coordination among diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex issues; desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
  • Capable self-starter with a drive to get all types of work done and high attention to detail.
  • Excellent ability to communicate across most mediums and settings.
  • Knowledge of military and Veteran populations.
