Job Summary

Aptive is seeking a dedicated, forward looking Principal Marketing Specialist to support digital transformation within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This individual will work with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), VA Central Office (VACO) or the Office of Information Technology (OIT) to support the administration's mission with activities such as: project, product and product line management; moving from waterfall management processes to Agile and Scaled Agile practices; and from stove-piped development, delivery and operations processes to DevSecOps best practices such as Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD). We are seeking individuals committed to delivering and improving quality services to Veterans.

Primary Responsibilities

Develops, directs, and manages corporate communications program involving advertising and collateral materials. Defines target markets and creates long-term marketing plans. Develops launch strategies, product positioning, messaging, and creative tactical ideas in support of client objectives. Outlines overall corporate situation analysis. Provides tailored services, develops evaluation tools, and monitors public response. Produces annual marketing proposals defining advertising for all media, public service announcements, and public relations. Manages budget schedules and timelines. Develops media strategies, provides counsel, and serves as spokesperson, as required. Must be proficient in some or all responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or Related Fields is required.
    (12-15 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education)
  • 10 years related experience required.
  • 5 or more years of marketing experience (digital and traditional) in a corporate, government or agency environment.
  • Experience extracting data from analytics software such as power BI, Tableau or Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Multi-tasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large Cabinet-level federal agencies, ideally the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access), Adobe Creative Suite, and CRM and CMS software.
  • Working knowledge of technical tools such as HTML/CSS and the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • A background in creative arts.
  • A portfolio of design work.
  • Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex issues; desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
  • Capable self-starter with a drive to get all types of work done and high attention to detail.
  • Excellent ability to communicate across most mediums and settings.
  • Knowledge of military and Veteran populations.
