Job Summary

Aptive is seeking a full time Communications/Events Specialist to support public relations and partnership development efforts for our U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) client. The Communications/Events Specialist uses strong communications, interpersonal, partnership-building, public relations, and research skills to share information about the benefits of working at VA. The role includes developing relationships with established and potential collaborators in the health care field, including media outlets, and Veterans' services organizations.

This position is located at Aptive headquarters in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia; 100% remote work is also an option.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee public relations and partnership development activities, including researching potential internal (to VA) and external partners, nurturing partner relationships, managing hiring events.
  • Create and disseminate pitches, presentations, and other communication materials to establish partnerships and enhance partnership development.
  • Support public relations and partnership outreach activities through direct public relations, event management, and partnership engagement
  • Research, write, edit, and coordinate a broad range of communications/outreach materials (e.g., outreach marketing plan, events marketing plans, brochures, fact sheets, flyers, media pitches, outreach scripts, social media posts), often under tight deadlines
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret information and data from various sources to use across content and in weekly and quarterly reporting to client
  • Contribute to client-ready materials for stakeholders, including VA leadership
  • Schedule, lead, and attend meetings with potential partners and clients on a regular basis
  • Develop content in compliance with AP style and other VA Style guidelines

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mass communications, marketing, advertising, public relations, English, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in strategic communications, public relations, public affairs, community outreach, or event planning
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; Ability to deliver clear, compelling communications, both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high-level attention to detail and ability to carry out multiple tasks under tight deadlines
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

  • Government contracting experience is a plus
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment
  • Detail-oriented, analytical multitasker; capable self-starter with a drive to get all types of work done
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in organizing, scheduling, and leading meetings
  • Positive and energetic attitude with a strong desire to meet goals, priorities, and commitments.
  • Experience writing about health topics and Veterans' issues strongly desired
