Job Summary

Aptive is seeking a dedicated, forward looking Expert Integration Engineer to support digital transformation within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This individual will work with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), VA Central Office (VACO) or the Office of Information Technology (OIT) to support the administration's mission with activities such as: project, product and product line management; moving from waterfall management processes to Agile and Scaled Agile practices; and from stove-piped development, delivery and operations processes to DevSecOps best practices such as Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD). We are seeking individuals committed to delivering and improving quality services to Veterans.

Primary Responsibilities

An Expert Integration Engineer must create strategies and plans for integration of multiple IT systems/subsystems into an operational unit, ensuring full functional and performance capabilities are retained. Coordinate with development and user teams to assess risks, goals and needs and ensure that all are adequately addressed. The expert integration engineer must be experienced in introducing new hardware or software into a new or existing environment while minimizing disruption and mitigating risks. The expert integration engineer must be cost conscience as well addressing goals. Must be proficient in some or all responsibilities:

  • Provide a total systems perspective including a technical understanding of relationships, dependencies and requirements of hardware and software components
  • Plan, implement, and document solutions to total systems or subsystems using internally created and/or commercial off-the-shelf products
  • Analyze, design, test, and evaluate network systems such as Cloud Resident computing capabilities, satellite networks, local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), the Internet, intranets, and other data communications systems ranging from a connection between two offices in the same building to a globally distributed network of systems
  • Plan and implement data management practices to treat and handle data as a resource.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or equivalent is required.
    (8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education.).
  • 15 years related experience required
  • Must have experience creating strategies and plans for integration of multiple IT systems/subsystems into an operational unit, ensuring full functional and performance capabilities are retained.
  • Must have experience coordinating with development and user teams to assess risks, goals and needs and ensure that all are adequately addressed.
  • Must be experienced in introducing new hardware or software into a new or existing environment while minimizing disruption and mitigating risks.
  • The expert integration engineer must be cost conscience as well addressing goals.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large Cabinet-level federal agencies, ideally the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Working knowledge of Model Based Systems Engineering, processes, tools and languages
  • C-SIP: Certificate as a Systems Integration Professional
  • Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex issues; desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
  • Capable self-starter with a drive to get all types of work done and high attention to detail.
  • Excellent ability to communicate across most mediums and settings.
  • Knowledge of military and Veteran populations.
