Job Summary

Aptive is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Editor for a potential contract supporting the National Science Foundation (NSF) for the Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD) Program. The STE provides technical writing and editorial support for the annual supplements to the President's budget, various federal reports, strategic plans, workshop reports, and other wide-ranging documents and reports.

This is a mid-level, full-time position onsite in Washington, DC.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Facilitate research, writing, editing, and production of high-quality Federal technical communications, including reports, pamphlets, brochures, manuals, briefings, instruction books, web articles, press releases, as well as the NITRD Supplements to the President's Budget
  • Provide guidance and instructions to the staff to ensure technical documentation is accurate, complete, meets editorial and government specifications, and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format, and style
  • Gather, analyze and interpret information and data from various sources to use across content.
  • Plan, generate and deliver client-ready materials for stakeholders, including leadership
  • Develop content in compliance with AP style and other guidelines.
  • Review outreach material for stylistic and formatting consistency.
  • Review and/or copyedit content developed by other members of the team


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or Other Engineering or Technical Discipline is required.
  • 10 years related experience required.
  • Expert knowledge of the use of digital means to connect and engage is critical.
  • Familiarity with a variety of emerging technology and scientific research trends, especially as it relates to the National Science Foundation (NSF).
  • Excellent writing and editing skills to include familiarity with AP styles and ability to adapt to specific organizational style conventions rapidly.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large Cabinet-level federal agencies
  • Proven expertise in strategic communications, public relations, public affairs, research, writing and editing.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple moving parts, juggle assignments and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to deliver clear, compelling communications, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex issues; desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
  • Capable self-starter with a drive to get all types of work done and high attention to detail.
  • Excellent ability to communicate across most mediums and settings.
