Grant Writer and Writer/EditorThe George Mason University, Office of the Provost, invites applications for the Grant Writer and Writer/Editor position. In addition, this position will be responsible for supporting other writing and editing initiatives, including general communications, web content generation/editing, language for brochures, video scripts, executive talking points, and more. The Grant Writer and Writer/Editor is a full-time staff position with full benefits.Responsibilities:The Grant Writer and Writer/Editor has responsibilities in the following areas:Facilitate and coordinate the creation and submission of proposals, and maintain a proposal repository:Assist with proposal development, interpreting grant solicitation requirements, and developing proposal writing plans and timelines; coordinate and oversee grant proposals, ensure all proposal development tasks are completed in accordance with internal and external deadlines;Coordinate timely submission of qualified proposals, including supporting documentation. Serve as grant liaison during pre-and post-award periods;Provide guidance and support to project coordinators and others regarding grant guidelines and procedures governing state, federal, and private grant proposal submissions and reviewer expectations;Ensure successful integration of all grant components and compliance with all funding solicitation and sponsor requirements; cross-walk proposal content with solicitation requirements; collaborate with fiscal and administrative staff, and staff in the Office of Research;Participate in meetings or discovery activities to inform assignments; keep informed regarding relevant topics and initiatives, particularly topics related to grant writing and sponsor expectations/guidelines;Identify elements of proposals that may need to be included in proposal budgets, and identify appropriate administrative staff to assist with technical budget development;Build a repository of proposals and proposal section exemplars as an outcome of past proposal work; andCoordinate with Foundation and Corporate Relations team to ensure alignment between Development Office;Grant Writing:Write, edit, revise, and submit grants;Create and implement processes and procedures related to grants management and proposal development; maintain process to monitor grant compliance and prepare periodic status reports;Work collaboratively with stakeholders to solicit input into content, organization, wording, and tone of the full document;Assist with formatting and editing of figures and other graphical proposal elements; andProofread/edit written copy prior to submission, ensuring readability, typographical/grammatical correctness, appropriate formatting, and completeness.Writing / Editing:Write content for a variety of purposes, audiences, and platforms including but not limited to, web site copy, executive reports, talking points, video and audio scripts, and ad hoc writing requests;Apply demonstrated copy editing skills and ability to edit/proofread own copy and the copy of others, as well as take edits from leadership and other stakeholders;Facility in narrative construction and storytelling;Follow Mason's editorial style guide and standards to ensure brand compliance; andResearch, coordinate, and write strategic content to increase visibility for the Office of the Provost's initiatives and priorities.Required Qualifications:Master's degree in English, Communications, or other relevant writing-focused field, or equivalent education and experience;Experience in reading, comprehending, interpreting and adhering to grant proposal guidelines;Experience in developing and writing persuasive grant proposals;Experience in managing, organizing and prioritizing multiple concurrent projects effectively to meet internal and external deadlines; excellent research and time management skills;Excellent oral and written communications skills, demonstrated organizational skills, project management skills, and demonstrated attention to detail;Ability to write and edit (including both content and copy editing) email and web-based communications for diverse audiences;Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively; andExperience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point).Preferred Qualifications:Experience in higher education; understanding of University sponsored programs and grant procedures;Experience managing a growing grants schedule;Knowledge of federal funding / grant opportunities, various funding agency or Foundation requirements, and proposal submission procedures; andAbility to effectively coordinate and communicate with diverse faculty, staff, and administrators across multiple disciplines and administrative offices.Additional Materials:Writing samples (2-4), preferably from a variety of audiences, genres, and media, including at least one grant submission.
