Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

This position provides a variety of regional Information Technology (IT) services within established standards and guidelines for the faculty and staff for the Upper and Lower Shore Clusters. Activities require knowledge of desktop/laptop computers, telecommunications/networking, networked servers, applications software and operating systems to diagnose and resolve unique, recurring and non-recurring problems.

The position provides one–on-one consultation with faculty and staff. The position requires independent and team-based analyses, problem- solving and communication. Work is performed with little supervision and requires initiative and judgment. In carrying out these duties the individual reports to the Assistant Director of Operations.

Education and Experience:

● B.S degree in an information technology related field.

● Three years of experience in a technology related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

● Knowledge, skills and ability to provide both on-site and remote access computer related support services to all UME faculty and staff located in assigned regional city/county/state offices and research and education centers.

● Ability to troubleshoot, repair, replace, or reconnect computer hardware and a variety of computer peripherals.

● Ability to analyze technical situations, communicate effectively with users, coordinate with campus and vendors, and document technical and procedural content.

● Knowledge of and experience with Windows installation, setup, preferences, and networking including networked servers.

● Knowledge of and experience with a variety of UMD and/or AGNR applications such as Microsoft Office, Adobe, Zoom, DUO, ELF, Drupal, Wireless Networks, and Google Apps for Education.

● Ability to select, purchase, and deploy hardware and software in coordination with campus AGNR Information and Education Technology (IET) office, Area Extension Directors, approved vendors, and campus Purchasing and Inventory departments.

● Ability to manage capital, sensitive equipment, and surplus inventory in collaboration with the Area Extension Director and University Purchasing and Inventory departments.

● Excellent interpersonal skills.

● Excellent written and oral communication skills.

● Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team.

● Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks.

● Perform additional computer-related activities as requested by the Assistant Director of Operations (ADO) or with approval from ADO.

● Evidence of capacity to build UME Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Respect capacity through Extension program model.

● Personal transportation and a valid driver's license are required. Must be willing to travel throughout the cluster as well as the state of Maryland as needed.

● This position is subject to a Criminal History Record Check and University of Maryland Background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion and clearance of the Criminal History Record Check.

Physical Demands of the Position:

● Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. including computers, printers, and other related equipment, both within offices and from one county to another and/or campus.

● Removal and installation of this equipment require occasional re-positioning of furniture and the ability to work under and behind office furniture and equipment.

● Visual acuity is required to review and/or analyze written reports, spreadsheets, data and figures for accuracy.

● This position travels to the various offices around the region and/or state to provide on-site computer assistance averaging about three days per week. Distance between county/city/research and education centers varies from 15 to 150 miles. Reliable transportation is required.
