Shady Grove Medical Center seeks to hire an experienced Director of Professional Development and Clinical Practice who will embrace our mission to extend God's care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing.

As the Director of Professional Development and Clinical Practice you will:
• Provide leadership and oversight for the planning, organizing and directing of the professional development and clinical education of employees in Patient Care Services.
• This oversight includes assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of nursing staff education and competency activities.
• Ensures fiscal and organizational management of the department. Responsibilities also include development of key relationships within and outside the hospital that support and promote the educational activities of the Hospital and clinical competence of the staff.
• Assesses and acts upon organizational education needs and professional development opportunities through collaboration with organizational leaders and stakeholders.
• Provides oversight and strategic guidance to all Nursing professional development programs: CNA Academy; Nurse Residency Program; Student Nurse Extern Program, Professional Career Advancement Program; Clinical Competency and Accountability Program, LPN Program; SNF Program; Preceptor Academy. Serves as a liaison with senior leadership in strategic planning and financial acumen on programs.
• Develops and supports education initiatives to orient, maintain and enhance the development, clinical acumen and competence of staff
• Contributes to hospital-wide improvement opportunities
• Maintains knowledge of and promotes compliance with education and/or competency requirements to support organization compliance with regulatory requirements
• Serves as a clinical education/professional development subject matter expert on entity and organization committees.
• Develops and manages discipline specific department productivity and budget effectively
• Integrates organizational strategic planning into department initiatives
• Facilitates and manages relationships with various schools, community, industry, and professional organizations and associations that benefit the hospital and ensures compliance with any related requirements or standards

Qualifications Include:
• Bachelor's of Science in Nursing required
• Master's of Science in Nursing preferred
• Current Maryland State nursing license
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
• Certification in leadership within 1 year of Eligibility
• Minimum of 5 years Nursing experience
• Minimum of 2 years in education or professional development
• 2 years leadership experience preferred
• Knowledge of adult learning principles, education assessment and curriculum development methods and tools
• Excels at building and leading teams
• Possesses coaching, mentoring, listening, critical thinking, and negotiating skills
• Strong emotional intelligence, leadership and interpersonal skills
• Ability to foster interdisciplinary relationships among health care team members at all levels of the
• organization
• Ability to work independently and handle a multi- task environment
• Strong clinical and critical thinking skills with the ability to design and deploy methods of learning that are interactive, creative, and relevant to unique learners and learning environments.
• Advocate for appropriate training and competency building of staff in order to ensure quality, safe care delivery
