IT Network Engineer
Position #: 106480
The IT Network Engineer works within the Division of Information Technology (DIT) at the University of Maryland, College Park. This position focuses on access layer network equipment deployments as part of renovations, capital construction, and general network refresh activities. This requires understanding and gathering of user requirements and translating the information into suitable network designs and switch configurations. This position also provides engineering, and maintenance expertise in support of operations. The position requires a valid driver’s license.
Minimum qualifications
EDUCATION
- Bachelor degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
EXPERIENCE
- Two years of demonstrated experience managing switch deployments in a mid to large academic or corporate environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of Windows OS and Mac OS
- Knowledge with both Cisco IOS and Cisco Catalyst OS; Network Testing Equipment; and Premise wiring including fiber optics.
- User level familiarity with Unix OS

Preferences
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems or related field preferred
- Network related certifications such as CCNA, and CCNP are desirable
EXPERIENCE
- Experience in a higher education environment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong, hands-on technical knowledge and experience of Cisco and/or Aruba networks

Salary range: $80,000 – $94,000.
Physical demands: Some stress factors may be involved due to the nature of the operation and the complexity of duties. This job requires the ability to install networking equipment that includes climbing ladders, lifting of heavy network equipment, working with hand tools, and accessing mechanical rooms.
