Summary: Ensure high quality and timely delivery of Appian core infrastructure systems. Responsible for attracting, retaining, and growing Quality Engineering staff responsible for the foundational elements of Appian. Able to develop quality processes and recognize and act on quality improvement needs across multiple teams in a rapidly growing engineering organization. Strong ability to triage issues and ensure they are brought to the attention of appropriate technical staff.

To be successful in this role, you will:

• Ensure infrastructure has enterprise class stability, availability, and performance allowing frequent releases.
• Ensure the team is effectively utilizing test automation to identify regressions, reduce manual toil and make testing faster and more effective.
• Mature and governance quality processes shaped around DevOps and continuous delivery paradigms using tools like Kubernetes and Docker.
• Recruit, train and inspire Quality Engineering personnel across multiple delivery teams.
• Effectively apply test design techniques and share knowledge with others.
• Systematically analyze requirements ensuring they are validated through quality activities.
• Effectively communicate critical situation updates to leadership team.
• Ensure postmortem and root cause analysis activities are performed and yield durable changes from their learnings.
• Inspire team to come up with creative testing approaches/solutions.

Basic qualifications:

• B.S. in Computer Science or related field; advanced degree preferred

Preferred Experience Level:

• 10+ years of relevant experience (e.g., Quality, Test, Performance, or Software Engineer); experience as a mentor or manager strongly desired
• Experience as a Lead or Manager strongly desired

Nice to Have:

• Proficiency in cloud engineering concepts as seen in AWS, Azure or Google Cloud
• Experience with Kubernetes orchestration on Cloud
• Experience working on software systems in an enterprise software or Saas/Paas environment
