The Ground Support Equipment Worker repairs Ground Support Equipment (GSE) following the guidance and direction of a higher-grade Mechanic, assists in troubleshooting malfunctions of GSE using test equipment, and hand tools shop equipment.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of Support Equipment for Storage, storage, and transportation.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on Commercial and Aviation SE.
- Inspects, tests, and operates GSE to determine equipment serviceability.
- Service equipment systems with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, and refrigerant.
- Disassemble and assemble malfunctioning GSE accessories and components.
- Remove, repair, clean, treat for corrosion, assemble, and reinstall GSE components and accessories, stencils, and marks GSE in accordance with technical publications.
- Operate, clean, inspect, and service GSE mobile power units and tow vehicles.
- Maintain and update electronic and paper maintenance records.
- Practice good housekeeping, tool control, hazardous waste handling, and safety.
- Remove, adjust, repair, replace/reinstall components including mobile air conditioners.
- Use of test equipment and benches for troubleshooting to repair, adjust and rework commercial equipment.
- Disassemble, repair, and reassemble Split Rim and Demountable Flange wheel assemblies in accordance with approved instructions and shop procedures.
- Perform proper handling and disposal of chemicals and petroleum products used during maintenance.
- Assist in requisitioning repair parts, and materials supply through the commercial and military supply system.
- Read and interpret reference material such as commercial maintenance manuals and technical drawings and wiring/hydraulic schematics.
- Recommend the most economical means of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
- Perform general housekeeping, workstation, shop, and facility, providing a clean FOD-free environment.
- Perform shift work and/or overtime as required.
- Perform other associated maintenance, support, and facility upkeep tasks as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED required
- Formal Military Training in Aviation Ground Support Equipment (AGSE) or a minimum of 2+ Years Experience (AGSE) or Light Wheeled or Tracked Vehicles maintenance - prefer 4+ years experience
- Experience with Mobile Electric Power Units, 400Hz and 28VDC Converters
- Experience Tire/Wheel safety regulations, maintenance and servicing procedures
- Strong Electrical skills and experience with A/C and D/C system troubleshooting
- Possess basic hand tools and are familiar with Level-1 Tool Control and regulations
- Must possess a valid state driver's license
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Hands-on experience in Aviation Ground Support type Equipment (AGSE)
- Experience in CFC handling and mobile air conditioning service units
- Familiarity with Hazardous Material Handling and general shop safety procedures
- Familiarity with and ability to use Military, Commercial manuals, and technical drawings
- Must be able to successfully complete the necessary employment screening
- Working knowledge of the 4790.2 (series) Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP) Program processes, procedures
- Must be well organized and a self-starter willing to take direction
