Scenic Painter, College of Visual and Performing ArtsThe George Mason University, College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks qualified applicants for a Scenic Painter. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Position:The College of Visual and Performing Arts is seeking a Scene Shop Scenic Painter to start in August 2022. Candidate should possess skills and talents to color mix, generate paint samples, prepare surfaces for treatment and implement various types of faux finishes for scenery, furniture and props as needed. Candidate should possess the ability to interpret scenic design drawings and renderings and to determine materials and processes necessary to carry out these designs. Candidate should have theatre experience including, but not limited to work as a scenic charge and scenic artist. Candidate will work extensively with students, so there will be a significant amount of teaching and training students of different skill levels.People skills, time management and organization are vital. Prior experience with maintaining paint tools and tracking inventory needs is preferred. Bachelor's degree in Technical Theater or Art preferred.Because the paint area is a shared space with the rest of the scene shop, the Scenic Painter will have exposure to dust and noises generated by power tools. This position may occasionally require heavy lifting and working at heights.This position is 40 hours per week, but there is some flexibility in the schedule. This is a 9 month wage (hourly) position (August to early May, exact dates flexible). Starting pay rate is $21/hr. (negotiable).
