AARP's Integrated Communications and Marketing (ICM) Group includes Membership, Content and Editorial, Customer Experience, External Relations, Brand Strategy and Strategic Communications. Across paid, earned, shared and owned channels, ICM manages AARP's reputation, drives engagement and member growth, and showcases AARP's mission and value through one, integrated voice.

The Writer/Editor/Producer develops and implements written or scripted content for publications, books, and/or digital platforms. Partners with both internal and external teams on content production and publication. Ensures format and quality of materials for dissemination are consistent with established publishing policies. Collaborates with management to identify opportunities to streamline editorial processes and develop new procedures that support the business unit/department.

Responsibilities

  • Conceiving, reporting and writing high-quality content for digital, print and other platforms that is appealing to a 50+ audience and furthers AARP's core priorities and mission.
  • Assigning and editing content from external and internal contributors; cultivating a network of qualified contributors; and generating contracts, as needed, for external contributors.
  • Employing digital analytics tools and resources to identify topics of interest to a 50+ audience and to evaluate the performance of content after publication.
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders and other partners to identify content needs to further AARP's core priorities and mission.
  • Entering content into content publishing/management systems, monitoring workflow and collaborating with production staff to ensure published content is accurate, appealing and adheres to publishing best practices.
  • Staying current on AARP's core priorities and monitoring key developments of interest to a 50+ audience in assigned coverage areas.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related discipline and 7+ years of digital publishing experience.
  • Exceptional editing and writing skills.
  • Proven track record of conceiving and executing high-impact, multimedia content for consumer-facing digital platforms (websites, blogs, apps).
  • Strong knowledge of digital content creation and digital platforms, content publishing systems, analytics tools, and SEO best practices.
  • Experience recruiting, assigning and editing qualified external (freelance) contributors.
  • Proven project management abilities and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to function in matrix teams as a digital content expert.
  • In-office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
