Adventist HealthCare seeks to hire a Stroke Program Coordinator - Registered Nurse (RN) who will embrace our mission to extend God's care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing.

As a Stroke Program Coordinator, RN you will:

• Be responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating the comprehensive Stroke Program under general supervision from the director, quality services. Primarily, the Stroke Program Coordinator will provide clinical support, education, and instruction to the staff and the community.
• Also assist with marketing the program as well as collecting and analyzing data to evaluate program effectiveness.
• Lead and facilitate Stroke certification efforts and ensure program compliance with regulatory and stroke certification/ designation requirements.
• Facilitate the development of policies, procedures, guidelines and power-plans. Create formal reports to hospital-wide committees and boards. Participate in local, State, and Federal meetings as required for Stroke certification designation.
• Recommend and track Stroke Program Budget line items
• Implementation of quality methodology to improve performance.
• Initiate and lead quality improvement projects and facilitate stroke quality improvement teams/meetings. Develop presentations (summaries, graphs, etc.) for reporting quality data.
• Conduct data analysis and reporting to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend and implement changes. Conduct concurrent chart review.
• Data collection including chart abstraction.
• Participates in the inpatient rounds to assess stroke patients as part of the treatment team; evaluate and recommend patients are placed on stroke protocols (orders); and via engagement with the care team, ensure appropriate discharge orders are written.
• Inpatient management: Works collaboratively with medical staff to assure appropriate diagnostic tests and medications are provided to patients.
• As a member of the stroke team, may respond to stroke emergencies; coach the team regarding administration of IV t-PA, and other activities that align with stroke management guidelines.
• Serves as the stroke expert and resource to professional staff by personally providing on-going stroke education to physicians, nursing, and allied health personal/ EMS.
• Develops, implements, and manages the staff stroke education plan to identify gaps and training needs. NIHSS Trainer that trains other staff
• Develops and/or selects stroke education materials utilized for patient education. Ensures that patient education materials are reviewed for health literacy and cultural competence.
• Design, develop, and/or select stroke education materials for community education. Provide community stroke education through lectures, interviews, and presentations to audiences.
• Distributes stroke education materials and answers individuals questions by participating in health fairs and other public events.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required
• Deep knowledge of stroke pathology and/or neuroscience
• Ability to perform well under pressure/emergencies
• Ability to train patients, medical staff, ancillary and nursing staff and EMS resources regarding stroke pathology
• Ability to administer and apply the NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) for acute stroke assessment
• Ability to collaborate with multiple disciplines required.
• Basic PC skills such as Windows and Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
• Strong analytical skills
• Strong communication and presentation skills

Qualifications include:

• Bachelor's degree in nursing from accredited school; Master's preferred
• Current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland
• Certified Stroke Registered Nurse preferred
• Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification to be able to train staff on NIHSS optional
• Five (5) to seven (7) years' progressive experience in acute care nursing required. Neuroscience nursing and/or critical care experience preferred.
• A combination of education and experience may be considered
• Experience assessing and designing educational stroke programs preferred
