AARP Foundation works to end senior poverty by helping vulnerable people over 50 build economic opportunity. The Benefits Access team works to drive older adult participation in a range of safety net and worker benefit programs with the goal of increasing financial security. We do this by raising awareness of programs, easing enrollment barriers and maximizing the length of time and amount of benefits received. We take a user experience, human-centered design approach to solution development and fund innovative, evidence-based solutions implemented by community-based organizations in addition to developing our own AARP Foundation offerings.

As the Benefit Programs Strategist, you will work with the team Vice President and lead a range of strategic projects that will shape the composition and communication of the benefit programs portfolio over the next five years. This includes facilitating ongoing strategic planning, tackling overarching program challenges, and leveraging design expertise to advance cross-cutting opportunities to develop a person-first programmatic model. You will analyze public, employer and private benefit programs to identify potential areas of portfolio growth and conduct explorations of new opportunity spaces. Finally, you will lead the implementation of a new collaboration model that engages a range of stakeholders to co-create solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements solutions. Executes and evaluates existing programs to identify improvements and to measure outcomes.
  • Collaborates with program leadership in the development of long-term goals and strategic plans to ensure continued successful growth and scalability.
  • Uses existing data to identify program enhancements and identifies needed data and research to maximize insight and experience management.
  • Managing enterprise assets and budgets. Project and process management.
  • Partner and stakeholder engagement (including volunteers, participants and program partners).
  • Reporting on program activities/outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an advanced degree in business, design or related discipline required and 7+ years of experience in strategic planning and program development; or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position.
  • Proven results leading a human-centered design process to turn consumer insights into meaningful new strategies and solutions. Experience with public or portable worker benefit programs preferred.
  • Strong facilitation skills, as well as meeting and workshop design.
  • Comfortable applying methods and frameworks across the design lifecycle. Experience coaching others highly preferred.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Comfortable and experienced engaging with individuals at any level of an organization.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple, evolving priorities with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to successfully navigate large, complex networks of relationships and stakeholders with differing priorities
  • Team-oriented and collaborative; passionately advocates and articulates opinions while maintaining flexibility to incorporate others' points of view.
  • Ability to produce elegant, concise materials that effectively communicate work product to a range of internal and external audiences including senior leadership.
  • This is an in-office position and the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise level is required.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
