Event Services Crew LeaderGeorge Mason University Student Centers seeks applications for the Event Services Crew Leader position. This position will work on the Fairfax Campus and report to the Operations Supervisor, Student Centers. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities:The Event Services Crew Leader will assist, guide and instruct Operations Staff regarding daily work responsibilities ensuring proper execution of all tasks and goals are met;Create and implement workflow plans for staff on duty (Full-Time Operations Assistants and Student/Wage staff);Ensure proper setup for events and other activities within Student Centers facilities, and supported spaces. Setup includes but not limited to: furnishings (table, chairs, podiums, staging, pipe & drape skirting, etc), advertising materials (banners, easels, signs, etc.), and aesthetics (cleanliness, blinds/shades adjusted, lighting adjusted, client access);Ensures that Operations and Student/Wage Staff are trained or instructed on any applicable items, necessary, i.e. proper transportation/storage of furnishings, hazardous materials, departmental procedures, opening and closing the facilities, etc. and can perform these tasks successfully and independently as needed or requested. Serve as a subject matter resource to staff for event operational issues;Inspect facilities and event spaces to ensure safety and maintenance issues in the area are addressed upon discovery, fixed as appropriate and relayed to appropriate personnel for action;Assist Operations Supervisor with personnel issues and evaluations of staff by providing additional insight and information as needed;This position will work closely with Operations Supervisor(s) and team to ensure proper coverage of shifts;Aid other Student Centers areas including Building Services when needed and time permits;Provide proper support during emergencies or unexpected situations; andIn absence of Operations Supervisor, assume role of primary point of contact for daily operations.Required Qualifications:Ability to supervise and instruct;Ability to communicate both verbally and written;Ability to train entry level staff as needed or required;Ability to lift 50+ lbs;Ability to complete strenuous and sustained manual labor;Working knowledge of custodial and/or venue set-up experience; andValid Driver's License with ability to drive/operate state vehicles.Preferred Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent preferred; andPrior crew lead experience is preferred.
