Overview
In pursuit of service excellence, the Temporary Summer Pool Manager (Recreation Leader IV) is a supervisory position that provides staff leadership, coordinates facility use, enforces pool rules and regulations, and oversees the safe enjoyment of public swimming pools. This position is vital to enhancing the overall safety and well-being of residents in our community. Each of the City's aquatic facilities provide a growing mix of learn to swim programs, competitive swimming workouts, scuba training, kayaking, water exercise therapy classes, leisure swimming by families and summer camps to diverse user groups representing all areas of the community.

What You Should Bring
Each member of our team is accountable for the outstanding delivery of services to the community. The ideal candidate should possess knowledge of park and recreation program planning, and water safety along with experience operating active public swimming pools with multiple user groups and activities. You should lead by example, demonstrate a commitment to excellence, deliver excellent customer service, leadership, and problem-solving skills. You may work early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Availability to work some evenings and weekends is required; and should be available for the duration of the summer operating season. You will work independently, have the support of and work under the direction of the Aquatics Manager and Aquatics Coordinator.

The Opportunity
  • Administers emergency and routine first aid to all victims of an injury;
  • Assists Aquatics Manager and Aquatics Coordinator with plans, developing budget and coordinating programs, implements various programs and activities for youth, teens and adults.
  • Facilitates monthly in-service trainings and develops staff schedule
  • Maintains continuous watch on the aquatic facility, staff, and participants to prevent injury and minimize or eliminate hazardous situations;
  • Maintains equipment, ensuring that equipment is safe, clean, and in working order and that supplies are adequate for required operation of facility, programs and events;
  • Markets and promotes aquatics programs and events through various sources including, but not limited to, social media, print media, City communications, and community agencies.
  • Operates a point of sale computer and follows cash handling policies and procedures;
  • Performs and records water quality tests; completes daily log, completes and maintains reports, corrects unsafe conditions, and performs other duties as assigned
  • Promotes a positive and courteous attitude when enforcing policies, rules, regulations, laws and ordinances governing the conduct of a person and promptly warns customers of existing safety hazards.
  • Provides exceptional customer experiences to all patrons in person and on the phone; and resolves customer service challenges;
  • Provides guidance, training, and support to staff during shift and effectively communicates with coworkers;
  • Responds quickly to all emergency situations and follows standardized rescue procedures when an emergency arises;
  • Supervises Recreation Leader I's (Lifeguard), Recreation Leader II's (Pool Operator), and Recreation Leader III’s (Head Pool Operator or Water Safety Instructors) and volunteers during assigned shift;
  • This is a seasonal temporary position, with varied hours per week;

National accreditation requires park and recreation agencies to meet 155 standards representing elements of effective and efficient park and recreation operations.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

Two-Year College Degree; one year of experience at the level of Recreation Leader III; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Possession of valid Red Cross Lifeguarding and Swimming Pool Operator's Certificate, or equivalent certification. Two years of swimming pool operation experience; the ability to perform routine maintenance/repair work on pool equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
Four-year College Degree with completion of college-level courses in recreation, physical education, or fine arts; three years of progressively responsible experience in aquatics, including some experience at the level of Recreation Leader III or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

More than 3 years of aquatics experience, including hands on experience producing aquatics programs. Experience in scheduling and coordinating aquatic staffing and programs; ability to provide working leadership to part-time staff and to volunteers. Customer focused and proven ability to work successfully with others.

This Position Requires the successful completion of a Pre-employment criminal records check and drug testing.
